Bitcoin is still king, at least for now.
Every exchange needs a common currency to convert altcoins.
So even if people stopped spending Bitcoin directly, they would still need a way to convert one coin to another.
BTC is the gold standard right now. That may change eventually, but for now $600 coins are a decent investment.
You probably won't lose money, and you could stand to make a nice profit.

With Segwit coming soon, and the possibility of some new services like Mega accepting Bitcoin, the chances that the price go up are even better.

No one is expecting Bitcoin rising to $1000 only because of SegWit implementation.
Ok maybe a few guys around here hope that to happen.
But I'm pretty sure the overall majority is knowing of the actual situation which will need much more than just SegWit to push us up close to the ATH.

When segwit is activated, and eventually Lightning Network is put to work, then it means that Bitcoin can grow to suit the world better. See it as some sort of a "future proof" update that is really needed to get Bitcoin to the next level. It makes everyone excited as these are the updates people have been waiting for. Mega merchants thinking to accept Bitcoin payment might hold back because of the 1MB block size. These will surely step in when they see the time is right. They have entire research teams to look at what's best for them.
