Segwit, while a great step forward, as far as I know won't completely solve the scaling issue. We need a consensus reached overall so there are no more bad actors and uncertainties of a HF, plus an ETF approved... then we'll see $1000+

I don't think segwit alone have enough fuel to pump the price that high. However we may see some positive movements in markets but still unpredictable one.

SegWit alone will probably not push the price up that is true.
But it's a great step in the right direction.Furthermore Bitfury announced that they together with Acinq have made great progress in the lightning network routing.

ACINQ’s team, using the specifications set out in the white paper, coded a payment routing algorithm and tested it with 2,500 AWS nodes. After their
tests, ACINQ discovered that the proposed Flare algorithm was able to find a payment route in about .5 seconds with a probability of 80 percent.

This all took/takes some time but it more and more looks like it will pay off.

Dunno about price but it's a very significant shot in the arm for future potential. If there was nothing of the type on the horizon then Bitcoin would appear a lot less appealing to many, myself included.

I'm dead curious to see what a functioning lightning network is going to look like. Will it be painfully clunky or a smooth running dream?

SegWit will address some of the issues, but the real push will come from the LN in my opinion. Let's just hope every angle is covered with

this and no exploits are possible after it's implementation. They have had enough time to make it rock solid. I predict a small price

increase to about $700 after this implementation, because it will add some extra publicity and exposure in mainstream media.

I am sure that as soon as Segwit gets activated that the price will go up as result, but not even close to $1000 levels. I can see a short lasting peak of $100 at most. And yes, I say short lasting because after a week or two, the price will come back down as everything will cool down again. I much rather prefer the price to go up in a slower, but much more sustainable manner. That's better for everyone.

Yeah I agree with you. Even at the time of last halving everyone was expecting btc to reach 1000+ but it didn't I think it's the similar situation right now. Of course with Segwit BTC will make some move maybe increase a bit but it won't touch 1000$ just yet.

Segregated Witness + Lightning Network are 2 biggest protocol upgrades bitcoin will experience in its history so far.
If these two technologies will be implemented and boost bitcoin network capabilities then price will follow.
Of course it is silly to speculate how big this price advance will be - and $1000 is more like psychological barrier more than real threshold.

segwit and the block size matter has been the center of a lot of drama from the start. and when it is released if it is successful and successfully adopted i think it can make some bigger changes in price but certainly not $1000 fast

I do not think so. Whatever news we have collected and know right now is already translated in the price. If price of Bitcoin really will go to $1000+ why not today? We all have the same information dont we? It will take a while longer before we will see Bitcoin to go back above $1000 and stay above it. A most optimistic prediction for me is maybe by the end of 2017. Most likely it will be later in 2018 - 2019, and that is still a big maybe.

I'm excited to see what will come of this, however we are definitely going to be sitting anywhere close to $1,000 if it comes out and works as intended right off the bat. The price will definitely move upwards, but not in some sort of miracle $400 fashion.

I remember when Bitcoin had regularly scheduled rallies of 1000% for no particular reason at all other than that was the trend.
