I am preparing to start my own business offering real life services to my local community.  Most people will want to pay me by bank transfer or in cash but I'd like to offer the option to pay in Bitcoin just in case.  In theory, shouldn't it be sufficient just to display my BTC address on my website?  Is there any benefit to using a payment gateway/merchant plugin in this case? I suppose it would be ideal if the website automatically generated some kind of receipt or confirmation for the client, but I'll be having personal contact with all clients anyway so I can confirm all payments received personally the same way I would for payment by bank transfer.

Any thoughts or opinions on this?  Am I overthinking things??  Roll Eyes Smiley

Edit:  I've thought of something!  How would I handle the fiat/bitcoin conversion so they'd know how much to send me??  My website is built on Wordpress so any plugin recommendations would be appreciated  Wink

There are many plugins for wordpress out there and works with woocommerce template as plugin. I haven't used any because i don't own any business but when searching i found this https://gourl.io/bitcoin-wordpress-plugin.html you can try their service for lower amount and use them permanently if there service works good. Or you can also hire someone to make custom bitcoin merchant script using block.io, blockchain.info api.

It's exactly as that, you can just display your BTCBTCBTC address if your customers have and will use BTC. It's simple and free.

Payment gateways are there if you want to offer BTCBTCBTC as payment option but would like to auto-convert the BTC received to your chosen currency. But note that you can still use it though if you want to store your earned BTCBTCBTCs in the gateway's wallet service.

Aside from the benefit of receipts as you said it's advisable to use payment gateways if you're handling mid-to-high volumes of transactions. These gateways provide an address for each transaction giving you a better insight especially in handling records. Besides, you can have your customers input first their info and send them to you automatically along with the payment, imagine if you manually handle and label all the transactions if you're taking 100+ orders per day.

If you think that there won't be many clients using Bitcoin Payments, then there is no need to bother with payments gateways.
You can process these transaction yourself, receive bitcoins and confirm it yourself.

There are however some benefits of 3rd party payment processors if you expect that you will have more bitcoin payments.
And basic plan with one of the most recognized bitcoin payment processors - BitPay is totally free - up to 30 Transactions/Month (Up to $1,000 Daily)

Also they will offer you:

- Payment & Refund Management
- Payment Tools
- Shopping Cart Plugins
- API, Libraries, & SDKs
- CSV Ledger Download
- Hosted Solutions

Are you looking for something similar to Bitpay? That's one of the payment sites I can recommend if you are, along with coinbase.

That's why many businesses prefer payment gateways to manual bitcoin addresses, even if there will be personal contact with the clients throughout the checkout process. Many (if not most) payment gateways for bitcoin have an option for converting fiat (often USD, but probably configurable) to bitcoin automatically when your clients go through the process. It looks more professional and clean; plus, it's a lot more convenient for your client to go through the whole checkout himself without you having to tell him how much bitcoin you're expecting and where the bitcoin address is located.

I used BitPay when I ran my online business and it worked perfectly. It's free, too.

Where I lobenwe have something called paydast. Now you can top up your payfast account in many ways using traditional methods but it also allows users to fill it with bitcoin and use the payfast account at hundreds of stores here. One very big sonoine store that is our local version of amazon I guess. It is called take a lot and they accept payfast and so do many other places. It's definitely a good idea. Makes things so much easier. Payfast payment gateway has made me use online services more then ever before so it will only do good for your business.

This is from a customers point of view. Smiley

That's an excellent suggestion.

Too bad OP is just a flighty bimbo lacking the capacity to respond to her own thread, much less actually do anything other than "have an idea."
