https://news.bitcoin.com/leading-dark-net-markets-support-monero/

"According to a recent Reddit post on the Dark Net Markets (DNM) forum, Monero will be used by the Alphabay and Oasis marketplaces. Rumors suggest that more markets will add Monero in the near future as well."

Has Monero released a desktop wallet? If not, I doubt anyone on DNM will use it.

if darknet markets have this much influence then why ain't they creating their own coins and accepting nothing but them? there'd be a whole lot more money in it.

The coin needs also markets and liquidity.

The opposite, that would make them lose a Whole lot of money. Such coins would be only valuable to those using that market, and worth nothing elsewhere, meaning the owners of the darknet would be making almost nothing from their own market, not to mention the coin needs liquidity

where did I show any scepticism? It's obvious that they do have a role to play. no idea what their turnover is though.

Yes. It can be argued that BTC's value was first derived from the darknet. Before it what market did BTC really have? Nothing. It was only useful in the darknet because it was very convenient and there was no need for banks. Now XMR is following the footsteps of the king and they still cannot or maybe will not accept that XMR is on the right track.

It was quite confusing that why those darknet sites chooses monero as they could have choosen any other like litecoin, dogecoin etc or even ETC, ETH but they choose monero. Do any one have knowledge or explain why monero is better suited than litecoin, dogecoin, etc, eth for darknet?

Monero is automatically 100% fungible and anon, no need for the trouble and expense of tumblers.

Dogecoin is a joke, no one in their right mind would accept them unless for micropaymnts or for satire. Litecoin is a almost 100% copy of Bitcoin and offers nothing unique, at all, in any way, not to mention it is not anonymous. Monero is anonymous and fits darknet use perfectly to be honest.

I would not be so quick to dismiss Dogecoin because Dogecoin has a tail emission. I explain why this is important in this post. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1125666.msg16049259#msg16049259

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Why not? It is anonymous so no need for mixers and tumblers, the volume is ok so it is easier to convert to bitcoin. XMR is perfectly tailored for the darknet and you cannot argue with that.
