The Brexit also hasn't happened in that Britain hasn't actually left the EU. It's pushed back the start if negotiations by two years, if it ever happens at all (or a shock speeds up the process of declaring Article 50)

A bit premature of the article I'd say. But in the end panic and fervor never match the on-the-ground realities. It's just hyped up in the moments leading to such an uncertain event. After the hype dies down a bit people realize no much has really changed.

...

But if you actually do Brexit, there's a precedent for it turning out just fine.

Britain Passes The "Snooper Charter" Ending All Privacy

This new legislation establishes the legal framework authorizing the government to hack into devices, networks and services in bulk and to create vast databases of personal information on all UK citizens. This is a preliminary step for a movement to impose worldwide taxation on Brits.

This is really to hunt money, not terrorism.

The "snooper's charter" requires internet, phone and communication app companies to store records for 12 months and allow authorities to access them whenever they demand. That data will include anything you look at or search on the internet as well as all your telephone calls and text messages. Meanwhile, security agencies will be able to force companies to decrypt data avoiding the Apple confrontation in the USA. They are also imposing limitations on the use of end-to-end encryption.

They want EVERYTHING you do. This has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with terrorism.

This is the hunt for taxes coming to a head in 2017.

Here's a reminder, via Wired.com's Matt Burgess, of what the legislation includes:

I didn't expect that UK will leave EU quickly.
Such thinking really was very naive.
Political establishment, financial and business industry... was again this idea.
Now, they will try to delay such decision as much as they can and will also try to control damage.
Main goal is to stay as part of unique economic market.
I don't think that negotiation between EU and UK will finish in next 4-5 years.

the expectations of people who voted for it are crazily simplistic. europe's in every little corner of british life and it could take a decade or more. my feeling is that the eu and uk government will make a lot of noise about certain concessions and everything else'll be business as usual. they should change free movement to skilled visas, because immigration won't be going down anyway and be done with it.

the uk already has millions of muslims who are multi generational citizens. it had nothing to do with the eu and everything to do with the empire. they ain't going anywhere.

and the people in charge of the uk are still and will probably always be part of a political class that pays little attention to borders. they'll do their best to serve up something that makes people feel like they got a result but if they look a little deeper they might find it's the same old stuff with a fresh coat of paint.

let's sit back and watch.
