Sending money without transaction fees

Hi all, I am new here so please pardon any mistakes.

I want to send 0.001 BTC to pyramining address.
I am using the Bitcoin-qt client for windows.

Although in the "options" transaction fees is set to zero, whenever I try to send, it asks for a transaction fees.
How can send without a transaction fee please?

Sorry, but you can't. Transactions less than BTC0.01 always require a fee of at least BTC0.0005, to discourage spam. If you use a modified client to send it without an appropriate transaction fee, the transaction will never be confirmed (so don't do that).

What?  This isn't accurate.  The protocol will happily support sending transactions without fees, it just may take forever to confirm.  I sent once just yesterday, took eight hours to confirm.

It is generally better to include transaction fees if you want timely confirmations, but there is nothing preventing sending without one and you will eventually be picked up.

A crazy way not really appropriate for your small amount. Send your wallet outside the system directly to the receiving party. Inform them to send the money to themselves and then wait for confirmation, before assuming they really have the money.

They pay the fee, not you. If they need fast confirmation. Their decision.

This is really just a horrible idea all around.

Just pay the fee if you want the funds to arrive in a reasonable timeframe.

I have the same problem, when I try to send 0,001 it requires 0,0035 fee, so much for free/low fees

Does the confirmation time depend on the fee amount? Or is MultiBit slow due to its thin-client nature?

I tested this with satoshiDICE:

• played 0.5BTC with the Bitcoin-QT client. No fee was charged. Got the reply 14 minutes later.
• played 0.4BTC with the Bitcoin-QT client. Fee was 0.0005. Got the reply within 1 minute.
• played 0.2BTC with the Bitcoin-QT client. Fee was 0.0005. Got the reply within 4 minutes.
• played 0.2BTC with MultiBit. Fee was 0.0001. Several hours have passed, no reply yet.

The fees are extremely low. You generally pay 0.0005 btc per transaction, or about 4.75 cents at current exchange rate. Good luck finding a bank that will give you those transfer fees.

Sending the wallet and asking them to redeem it is just a security nightmare. especially if any of the wallet addresses might actually have appreciable incoming funds in the future.
