The announcement was made here: http://terracoin.org/news/

Windows binaries are found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/terracoin/
(Linux users should know what to do)

If anyone knows a pool operator, you should let them know.  And definitely if you are solo-mining, you need to update now (before block 99988).

This mandatory build alters the way the difficulty is computed during retargets
.

What exactly does the difficulty change do and why? They haven't given much time for people to update given that it's a forking change. It's likely to cause problems with pools and exchanges with users on old clients wondering why they're not getting any of their coins confirmed.

^the gimmick for trc is faster difficulty retarget, which in theory (before you actually think of the consequences) is a great thing but in reality it resulted in people severely abusing the system and the difficulty was going all over the place.

The source diff for that change can be found here:
https://github.com/terracoin/terracoin/commit/300d6ac14fd5aaa6a71e14090fa72b1b1d029488

It appears that the averaging window is increased from 30 blocks to 24*30 blocks.

Two changes are included in this release:
1) Fix a major vulnerability that I communicated to the terracoin dev (I will disclose this once the update is complete)
2) Increase averaging window from 30 blocks (1 hour) to 720 blocks (1 day) to fix the difficulty oscillation exploit

Yeah, we know that. But there's no direct link on the news page. For the people who are not reading this forum.

thats not a fix LOL!!!! thats worse.

what TRC need's is average from 720 blocks but with a retarget being done everyt 30 blocks.

I hope that is the change not simply change from 30/30  to 720/720. because that is a way to see some real oscilation - not only automated, but also manual jumping would be easy so oscilation would go haywire.

Yes, retargeting period is still 30 blocks, only the averaging window is now 720 blocks.

Glad I saw this as have recently become interested in TRC, however I do need some help compiling for linux:

(Linux users should know what to do)

Unfortunately I don't know what to do!

Seems the github and sourceforge downloads of the "master" branch, aren't giving me version 0.1.3-28

I am a relative newbie when compiling for linux, so it's likely I am making some mistake, but I've looked for a while now for where to get the right version of the source to compile...

for example,
git clone git://github.com/terracoin/terracoin.git
then compiling using Qt-Creator to compile:
Gives me version:
v0.1.2-44-g0e000cd0beta

Any help appreciated!

Also, please tell me what would be the consequences of NOT updating, for a solo-miner?
