Why is this thread locked ?

I think Bitcoin Foundation needs a PR person. Developers in general suck at PR, they're to narrow minded and too tech focused to understand the needs of ordinary users and the ordinary public.

(This is no attack on the devs, which are doing an excellent job - it's just a realization of how reality is, and what we should do)

I know some people would say bitcoins succeeds or fails at it's own merit. But the bitcoin foundation need some person that knows how to deal with the media when getting contacted, and someone that can say the right things, and make bitcoin be understood in less technical terms.

I second this

they also need some think tank types
who can understand the implications of BTC/CC's dragging the collective world/gov out of the back of the cave

It has recently occurred to me, for instance, that if BTC rises too fast it may gut a lot of the systems we may have liked to use the BTC in....

Id be happy to discuss this with the Bitcoin F. I have a background in relations, political and business. I have the ability to "switch" between nerd and lamen. And I can clearly see when and why someone doesn't understand something in any given explanation.
Basically, the needs you are describing (and more) fit directly into my forte.
I will be happy to give them any info they want and they can decide if I am beneficial.
Let me know Smiley

Get this, no one is stopping you from contacting news agencies on your own and using your people skills for Bitcoin.

Over 2000 posts. What would you say, you do here?

Haha,

That account was for a business ultimately,
So I made this for a personal type deal.

*Edit
Anyways, I just thought it was a good fit. I'm not like desperate for the position. Its a lot of work and a lot of repetitious explanation. I just happen to have a way with the average folks Smiley

BitMonkey, you could contact the foundation and let them know about your interest?

Bitinstant people seems overwhelmed these days, I don't think they can take on more. And Vessenes seems overwhelmed too, I don't even think he has any time to do anything at the foundation.

I don't think it's an attack....  I happen to agree completely.

I don't think a JR Member should be the PR. They have Erik as a member he is doing marketing for bitinstant why can't he just do the bitcoin foundation?

Jr. Member?  You mean the number of posts he has on the forum?  Look, I don't know the gentleman in question at all and have no idea whether or not he is qualified for such a position, but to disqualify him on the basis of how many times he's posted to the forum is shortsighted at best.  I'm technically a "junior member" here (I think am still, I don't really pay attention), even though I joined in Summer 2011 after monitoring the boards since late 2010.  For the past 3+ years, I've mined Bitcions, spent Bitcions, and have bought and sold Bitcoins since then in no less than 5 different exchanges, not counting bitcoin-otc.  I've programmed multiple applications using the bitciond API, and have informed quite a few people about the project, some of whom went on to buy, sell and spend Bitcoins.  I paid for VPNs, VPSs, and developer and designer services using Bitcoin.  On a personal note, these forums, and most importantly the Bitcoin project overall, have had a huge impact on my political and philosophical outlook on life, for which I am grateful.

Nonetheless, I take care not to deluge the forums with my thoughts on Bitcoin, and try to limit them to when I have something to add to the conversation based on my personal experiences.

On the other hand, I've noticed quite a few people who have joined only months ago have spammed the forums with utter nonsense and "+1" posts who are accordingly no longer "jr members".  Frankly, I could care less, but the fact that some people use this as an actual metric for experience in the Bitcoin community is a major concern.  I actually think this perspective was one contributing factor to a lot of the fraud that has occurred in previous years.  People would see someone was a "hero member" because he had spammed the forums for the past month or two with useless posts, used that as a proxy for trust, and entrusted him with more money than was wise.

Folks, instead of the number of posts, if you're really interested in someone's experience with the community, look at the year when they joined, what type of projects they've been involved in, and most importantly, the content of their posts.  There's no substitute for quality!

Like I said,
I can share the "above par posts" with anyone who matters.
It will be awesome to see gweedos reaction if it ever becomes worth it to do so.

I put a suggestion on a btf meeting agenda to consider hiring someone to teach public speaking, communication, etc. I'm not certain if it was discussed (it's not like they are set up like a hard core committee with minutes and what not), but I didn't get the idea that anyone on the board was keen on being groomed as "the PR guy."

In time BTF will have a pr person I'm sure. And a decent logo. And font set. And color scheme...etc...just like all big organizations.

bitcoin foundation already have great PR people.. the crew behind bitinstant are great spokespeople.

and i know atleast one of them is highly involved with the foundation.

if you ever watch any of the public speaking that the bitinstant crew do, their words at these events alone prove my points validity..

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

That's good to know.  It's still a fledgling organization itself, so to draw on the resources of the greater business community is wise.

Send reporters my way. I can set them straight. I usually spend 90% of the conversation helping them correctly understand Bitcoin.

Guys like Maxim at FoxNews got it right after about 20 minutes on the phone.

Bitcoin Foundation: The biggest future issue with bitcoin

I think a PR person at the Bitcoin Foundation would do a lot of good the the project's developpement. We keep seeing fans and bitcoin amateurs invited to news shows, a BF official would look way more proffesional and would certainly improve bitcoin's image.
