so I've got a situation.  Loaded the windows version of the bitcoin client (0.3.22-beta), and installed it with WINE through ubuntu.  Can't get any connections, and there is no wallet.dat file to transfer to the linux version (so I can get my BTC transferred)

So I need to either

a) Find a way to get connections so I can download the blocks and get my payments,

or

b) Find the wallet.dat file so I can transfer it to the linux version, and download my payments through there

Help is appreciated, yeah sorry to be a nØØb

dont use WINE ...

download the native Linux version.

extract it where ever you want it

usually /home/username/bitcoin-0.3.22

then open a terminal and get to the bitcoin directory

ex.
cd bitcoin-0.3.22

then start bitcoin
ex.
bin/64/bitcoin
or
bin/32/bitcoin

wait a little, bitcoin gui will start .. close it, make your bitcoin.conf ... start it again, have fun

for your wallet ...

check in
/home/username/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/username/Application Data/bitcoin

Thanks, that was the key piece I was missing (I haven't used wine before)

Much appreciated

Wine break the windows networking code I guess but the native Linux works just as well.

On 11.04 there seems to be an issue getting it to display the wx interface (not sure if this is fixed in 3.22)

As for your wallet you need to move it to

/home/USERNAME/.bitcoin/wallet.dat

Don't reinvent the wheel. There are excellent native miners for Linux. I run poclbm on my Ubuntu install myself.

Wish I would have hit the forums first Sad

I setup over 5 machines last week (ubuntu/wine)

Left them running overnight hoping that they would finally connect....no go.
