I understand many of us here use Steam or at least have heard of it. This is not a bitcoin service per se, but this is a service that accepts bitcoin.

If I were to lose my Steam Account tomorrow, and contact steam support, they say that I need a valid proof if purchase. Will I be allowed to sign a message from the address I paid with? Does BitPay not give Steam transaction logs, will this not count as a valid proof of purchase, or will it help me get my account back?

I have not lost my account, just asking whether I should look for something else to verify my account with in case I get hacked.

looking for a signature campaign, dm me for that

maybe just give em the txid because bitpay will generate an unique address for every transaction so you don't need to sign a message and i think the steam customer service doesn't even know what's the meaning of "signing message"
and if i'm not wrong, every bitpay transaction have unique id too?

I think it will work. but  I am wondering why you need to do this to recover steam account? are steam accounts for sale? what I know about steam is steam games are for sale but creating an account on steam is free. so why someone need to sign a message to recover his account? can't you simply use email recovery?

You can always recover your account in steam via the email you have registered there in the first place. You can tell the support that your email was hacked and that all of the username and password was also changed in your steam account. Support will help you out and that is a really big valid reason why steam accounts aren't accepted as collateral in the lending section of this forum.

You never have had to prove you paid in that way ever. I use to use PayPal before bitcoin and all you need to do is show the online transaction you dont have to show any payment went through. You can use a cdkey or even an email address as proof. If you really screwed you can use a cdkey off a box of a game you own or your Id. Basically as long as you can prove ita your account its ok.

And that is very interesting question. Thanks for bringing it up. Unfortunately I don't think that steam support is that progressive to respect signed message from address used to buy product from them.

First, I am not sure if Steam support has access to bitcoin transaction logs, as Steam uses BitPay to process every BTC purchase.

Second, even if they can confirm your BTC address I am not sure if signed message is considered a proof enough - probably not.

You will still most likely still need your PayPal or Credit Card logs to prove account ownership.

But this is all my speculation, the best way is to ask Steam Support about this issue directly.

i'm not even sure that steam really deeply into bitcoin, all of the problem were bitpay's responsibility so steam have nothing to do with the bitcoin transaction, they will just receiving money in form of fiat not in bitcoin, they're just using API,But as your answer that steam will be asking for another payment proof like paypal or credit cards log but if the accounts was never being linked with those then how?

Doubt it's possible because steam isn't that interested with bitcoin payment, i think they just use their API and receive the money automatically.
But, there are many ways to proof that you're the owner of that account, so just save/remember important thing such as phone number, email, steam guard and some other neccesary things.
accepting bitcoin even just using a bitpay's API is definitely meaning they're accepting the bitcoin so if there's a problem they will help their customer to face the problem,so they're actually interested,if they're just let their customer face their problem with the steam without taking any responsiblity then it's illogical, keep in mind that steam is a big company

I've tried doing this with steam before(I'm a pretty big CS:GO trader, 500+USD knives, I won't mention my name ofc) as I lost one of my smurf accounts with several high tier knives before, but they wouldn't really accept it and kept asking for some different kind of purchase- thankfully, I bought a few other games on that account, but that was before steamguard and all of that shit. Still sad that you need to confirm pretty much everything nowadays, but that's just steam's way of preventing mistakes, and I guess it works pretty well.

this is very interesting but there are some problems since bitpay which is processing the payments should have kept some kind of logs from your transactions and should be willing to give it up.

also even in case it was possible you should see if "steam" accepts this kind of proof or not.
and according to their site here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5421-QTFB-3090#proof
they do not accept this type of proof. so maybe we should contact the support and ask them to add this. they are fast and responsive.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

As a user who was once got his account hacked, customer service is shit and would typically reply for hours; most people who will help you resolve your issue are mods of a community in steam. Also, you have your email so why bother about being hacked or whatsoever? If you're still unsure of the security of your account, you can still use the mobile authenticator as a 2fa tool to further secure your account.

EDIT: Since customer service is shit, I don't think telling them the tx id of a certain transaction would help in any way. Your only resort is your email that is not compromised and recover it from there.
