Cointelegraph is promoting scammers through ads --- biteminers and some others. Should a decently reputable btc news site do some vetting of their advertisers?

I've saw allegations saying that Cointelegraph is not a reputable crypto-currency news website, so this confirms what those people said.

Yeah that's shitty to advertise any cloud mining site.  I assume they know better.  And yeah I thought cointelegraph was a legit news source.   You can't be unbiased about sucker-bait bitcoin scams whilst taking money from same.

This issue was raised so much times in past also and what cointelegraph doing will surely effect the new peoples mostly. I like the animated posts they have and i think many other also like that but they keep promoting one after another cloud mining ponzi getting lured by high referral commission or by high grade ad payment from cloud mining ponzis. This is purely a bad practice and is bad for their reputation too.

This story is what the community needs, some proper investigation and warning! Thank you. This stands out in an ocean of rubbish media in the Crypto space This is a trend that seems to become more common among cloud mining scams, as they want to entice users to sign up to find out more details

Most cloud mining companies do not start as scams in my opinion. I think they truly thought that they could compete and make ROI for themselves and their clients. Maybe it is out of ignorance or naiveté but the bottom line is we should be responsible enough to give them the benefit of the doubt.

As for Bitminer I cannot speak personally if they really intend scam from the start but I can surely say that their success to get ROI is very small. It is better to avoid all cloud mining sites.

Most popular bitcoin news sites by now have turned into cash making machines. I bet that a big part of their news is actually paid advertisement content which is hidden in the form of an article.

I think we will be seeing more and more of this type of advertisement. It is very difficult for us to see the difference between a real article and an advertisement article. It requires more work for the advertiser, but I think the exposure is much higher than to current advertisements.

If people read a full article, they have spend a lot of time thinking about the product that is promoted.

That's the sad truth. I think most Bitcoin news websites are taking the opportunity to earn from their advertisements since Bitcoin users are into looking for news, especially those who are also sharing on their bitcoin related social media accounts, they tend to go back again and again to that site. Sometimes, those sites that you trust for bitcoin news lead you to join some cloud mining, hyips and doublers that are present in their ads. This happens mostly on newbies, because they trust the site, they think it provides trusted sites on their ads too.

@OP, I think so, they must look over the site first before advertising it. Reputable/legit sites must help people out to avoid scam sites and not advertise it for people to be scammed.

no, it's no use, cointelegraph actually know what's exactly a website that they're advertised, they even having a small banner that having hyperlink to the cointelegraph's referral link, they just don't need to look over the site because they're not forbid any Ponzi site and consider those sites as a money machine

Unlike other news sites like Coindesk and others , Cointelegraph don't give a damn about the readers , they advertise whoever pays the most and It has been proven In the last few months , I'm going to give few examples so I don't just throw accusations just like that.

Bitplutos.com  (thread I made in 2015 ) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1130864.0
SearchTrade.com (I accused them for scamming just because the fact they couldn't give a signed message to prove they actually have funds even though the owner promised to give one)  , Scam accusation I made (in 2015) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1180957.0 & SearchTrade thread (got closed at June 2016 since some people started to accuse them) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1169313
Coince.com (which is a clear Ponzi scheme) and they are running for some time now and stopped paying some people since few days.
Biteminer which is most likely a copy of HashOcean... I remember that they start advertising about it few days before HashOcean goes with over 700,000 user funds.

Finally , Here is an interesting thing you should read by a Former writer on Cointelegraph : https://medium.com/@iandemartino/more-on-cointelegraph-by-a-former-writer-b4e1058b37ca#.bcaxjgfm0

Overall , Cointelegraph is not trustworthy and whoever is using the products they promote , should use them carefully or not use them at all !

looks like Cointelegraph is loosing revenue ,so they are allowing more site to for teh advertising purpose , may be there are lot scammers on those advertising sites alos, because they introduce some malware etc. so Cointelegraph can add some security measures to keep their reputation and maintain legitness of their site.

There are other crypto websites advertising cloud mining. Coinmarketcap was advertising one five minutes ago.

They probably get paid by Google ads or similar, and don't know what will be in their banner. I don't know if you can pick and choose what Google ads your site shows. It might be a case of let them show anything or you can't use Google ads.

You could also say that this forum is promoting scammers, since it's expected of you to make your own conclusions if something is a scam or not.

Now to be honest, seeing them promote these scams does make me take everything they post with a grain of salt.
Same as everything I read about on this forum

I think the advertising provider, the media will surely be more concerned with profit than a belief. So if it cointelgraph do like that, because they're just running errands as a provider of space ikaln and they just want to seek advantage. If indeed the ad shown is one of the fraudulent website, then you can complain of such things so that they may review the

There aren`t many big bitcoin advertisers so Cointelegraph doesn`t have any

requirements about the legitimacy of their advertisers.

This is sad.Bitcoin is still flooded with scammers and this stops the btc growth.

Just ignore the advertisements of ponzi sites. today many news sites disclose sites ponzi. Although I do not like sites ponzi I read the news of many websites and when I see a ponzi site, I ignore.

I doubt they will lose reputation because they promote ponzi sites or because they post news about  ponzi sites.

Cointelegraph is promoting scammers through ads --- biteminers and some others. Should a decently reputable btc news site do some vetting of their advertisers?

I like those guys yammering that someone is doing something unethical.
Thiose guys participating in a signature campaign of a dice game.
Bravo!

Before judging all of the reliable bitcoin news sites will be better for understanding the advertising system and I don't know about my word but maybe I think they're not picking the banner for manually and they're just get a banner for automatically but I don't know about how the advertise is working, maybe if my sentences is not correct waiting for someone is correcting my sentences.
