You are true that giving portfolio in private is worst way to promote your service but why are you saying shy? I can't understand, there isn't any reason to be shy in internet no one can view you and if you want to find job and offer your services and skills, I can't understand why person would be shy in such theme. If person thinks that he/she is shy in such thing, than it's person's psychological problem.

P.S I advise this thread's author to show us his works and samples and than there will be more user who will be interested in using his service.
