Like it happend the summer of 2011, this forum is again being filled with a lot of users that brings nothing but noise, perhaps it would be time to apply a 'vacation' feature for most of those that are posting useless nonsense posts.

Ground of being given a vacation from the forum could be posting in the main bitcoin forum posts like:

Quote
BITCOIN CRASHING, OMG, OMG - SELL - SELL - SELL - SELL !!!!

And with content like:

Quote
This is it folks, this is the end, sells now or forever lose your money!!!!!1

And since people always say that, if you complain, why don't you do something about it ?

Yes, I would be happy to give such people "vacation's" and move their posts permanently to /dev/null

Bitcointalk filling up with idiots, it's the END OF BTC AS WE KNOW IT SELL SELL sell sell sell

No really, what do you care what people post? Are you afraid those comments might induce a panic? If so, then all for the better, because when an economy can be brought to its knees simply through a forums post.... yeah, good riddance to that.

SOMEONE HAS AN OPINION I DON'T AGREE WITH SO LETS BAN OR RESTRICT THEIR ACCOUNTS! BOOOOOOOOO!

Look I find these idiots as annoying as anyone, but the ignore function exists for a reason, you sound like those morons I see on corporate media ranting on about 'bullies' when there's a block function right fucking there on the profile page when you click the cog icon on the message button. Ever since I've had to deal with real stalkers/trolls I've refused to take part in any social medium that doesn't provide a properly working ignore/block function because otherwise you'll be spammed off the place since these people truly have no lives.

Take a stand, only support social networking that provides complete anti-spam features and respects your privacy.... Maybe I should found a political group based on it but I bet someone has already done it Cheesy

Well, There is a functionality which is missing on this forum. But I do not know how difficult to implement it would be.
Look what tools we have for quick orientation about trustworthiness and "seriousness" of the post and its poster. Surely, we all have "Ignore" option and we all can derive some information from the number of posts, coins, titles (although you should not consider it as measure of trustworthiness when doing trades, etc.). You can make an opinion by watching posts and realizing something like: "OK. This user is definitely FUDer" or "This one is a strong idealist convinced that Bitcoin will reach 10 000 to 100 000 USD/BTC soon." or "This is pessimist who wants bitcoin to fail, bacause he is promoter of alternative coins." or "This one is convinced that Bitcoin will crash/should be more centralized/should be more decetralized" or "(too) Strong libertarian" or "(too) Socialists" or "Reasonable person" or whatever.

What I find difficult is to keep track of all such your personal (and definitely subjective and biased :-]) opinions. There are simply too many users.
I call for a way to add, remove and edit personalized tags for each user. Those tags would be visible to you and to you only written in distinctive font/color near the user avatar and coins (newbie, Jr. member, Full member, Sr. member, ...).
This way you could very quickly asses (based on your previous experience) if you should take the post from the person with a grain of salt or to pay it close attention. You could have the opportunity to edit (add, remove) tags right on the place when you are reading the post.

Briefly said: Current distinction "ignore/unignore" is too crude and more personalized degrees would be helpfull. With bitcoin community increasing in its numbers influx of "idiots" and generally all various kinds of people would be inevitable.

We should follow what the Rogan board does and create a "cunt farm". Everyone that is a troll or an idiot gets banned from the main forums and can only post in the "cunt farm" board.

Caution! Eternal September is in progress!

Eh. It goes further back. Seneca was complaining about the same thing 2000 years ago.

If you shout in a shopping mall, whatever you shout, if you do it long enough - you get removed by security - that's all.

The fictional/example post I referred to in the first post was of course nothing but an example...

While I'm sitting on the forum anyway, I'd be more than happy to remove such posts to the right section, or delete them completely.

How about if somebody posts an item in the wrong section they get binned and unable to start a new thread for 24hrs or so.

This would help in the good section. That place can be a real mess

O.o

Honestly, I'm more worried about the "Bitcoin $2000! GUARANTEED! BUY NOW OR REGRET IT" posts from users who have been around less than 3 months with under 100 posts than the bears...

Haha - that's brilliant.
