Seems like the trades happen slower, but prices are cheaper... maybe I should buy on one and sell on the other?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

People haven't yet gotten money into both exchanges so that they can profit of the price difference. I know I'm working on it. When there are enough people playing both exchanges prices will track to within the commission price.

I think they make money off the spread. Look at the buy/sell quotes.

The spread will decrease as volume increases.
