We all know Russia’s history with bitcoin hasn’t been exactly fluid. A couple of months ago, it seemed like maybe Russia was next in line to jump on the crypto-currency band wagon. That’s not the case anymore.

Earlier last week, the Russian Finance Ministry announced that there is no need to rush the bitcoin draft law. Also stated were their plans to once again bring the draft back for a closer look.

Alexei Moiseev, Russian Finance Minister announced the ministry isn’t looking to ban bitcoin directly from the country. Moiseev said that the review processes this time will involve experts in bitcoin, as well as other types of crypto-currencies.

It's best to maintain a healthy dose of skepticism with any headlines about the Russian government.  If media hype is to be believed, their stance on Bitcoin is borderline schizophrenic and changes every other week.  Chances are, it's actually more consistent in reality.  I'd guess the actual stance is mostly uninformed and dismissive, the usual 'drugs and darknet' stuff, with a small number of self-educated individuals occasionally making more positive noises, which people mistakenly interpret as Russia warming up to the idea.  And even if every single last person in the Russian government did understand Bitcoin, given the choice between personal monetary freedom for all, or maintaining a vice-like grip on the Russian economy, it's pretty clear what their priority would be.

I would be totally confused if I was living in Russia. The one week they ban it, and the next week they embrace it. I thought the different laws in the

different states in the USA is confusing, but the Russian governments views on Bitcoin seems to top that. I would be rather cautious if I was a

Russian citizen. You can buy Bitcoin, but do not announce it to the world.  Huh Huh Huh
