First off, I'm about as big a noob as they come, so bear with me. But actually, that's just the problem. Because I'm new, I simply can't get BTCs. It's like waiting a month or more to get your money out of the bank.

I've installed Bitcoin-qt, but the blockchain is taking weeks to download, leaving me unable to receive BTCs. I'm sorry I don't have a NASA PC, but I use a laptop, & I have to reboot every now & then. Whenever I do, Bitcoin crashes & I have to reinstall it, which means I have to restart the blockchain.

All I want is a lousy working BTC address so I can receive BTCs for the immediate future (Bitcoin has given me an address, but I'm assuming it won't work until the blockchain is done). I could care less about the technology, the mathematics, the mining, etc. I don't understand any of it & I frankly don't want to. It has nothing to do with intelligence - I pick my knowledge battles, & I prefer to waste as little time fighting this one as possible.

Any help that will allow to me to get a BTC address with the least resistance would be greatly appreciated. Can I do it without waiting for a blockchain? No offense meant to BTC aficionados, I just want to do this without getting wrapped up in the technology. So the less complicated the better. Thanks!

There are a few "lightweight" wallets you could consider so you don't have to wait for the blockchain to synchronize.

You might want to look into the following and choose the one that best meets your needs:

Electrum
MultiBit
https://blockchain.info/wallet

The first 2-and-a-half minutes of the following video will take you step-by-step through the process of setting up a blockchain.info wallet:
