Nice story! So was the scammer able to sell his giftcard for more than $450?

That would be better than the $380 he offered to buy from you.

Good job making him accountable and teaching him a lesson he won't soon forget. As my wife likes to say, "Be sure your sin will find you out." ;-)

This is a beautiful story of how a scam was spotted and with a very good intelligence. You can apply in CIA or local intelligent agencies with your capacity of how you used the clues to get back to his real identity.

You claim to be a player but I fucked your wife.

You let him off too easy. The most he suffered was a disappointed brother.

He will quickly get over it and continue scamming other people, since he has learned that the worst that will happen to him is an (already) disappointed brother.

great story, but you have invested some hours into it, which is a pain. this is still better than getting nothing, but if he was more cautions, you would probably have no chance.
you still have to trust to many people on the internet. this reminds me to use an escrow more often then i do.

Very nice story and it feels really nice to see scammer getting busted. I have also got scammed several times but never found who are the real scammers. Actually finding big scammers like owner/admin of scam PTC sites, Cloud mining ponzis, HYIPs would be a bigger success and even those scammer could be charged with legal actions with all the proofs like you have collected, if we can collect.

This is awesome!
Great lesson on re-using screen names, and how easy it is to link things together to track someone down.

Unfortunately not all scammers will be so careless, but its nice to see at least one get caught.
Hopefully he learns his lesson and pays back his victims.
As someone who made mistakes when I was younger, I can say people definitely change. Hopefully this guy does too.

lol, now kids are scamming people. what the hell.
it seems like any youngsters that sit behind their computer, because of the semi anonymity of internet starts feeling invulnerable so they start doing all kinds of stupid stuff without thinking that it may have some consequences.
anyways i think you let him get away with it easy. Smiley

Very nice story indeed,i'm glad that you get your money back but i am afraid that he will try to scam again in the future.People do not change so easily and the lesson you gave him was not hard enough, sooner or later he will forget about everything.Anyway i hope i am wrong and he will never do it again.

It is good to stop things early on.  It is just too easy to play the games sometimes and when the first one pays off for them in what a person that age should consider a decent sized amount

Word, I agree.  If you have dox on a scammer then that's when the gloves come off and the tables turn.  But bravo to the op here for pushing back.   Some is always better than none.  I sometimes wonder what the bitcointalk scammers look like, what countries they're from, and everything else.

If the original Backside walkaround can prove to me they are the old owner of this account, I can update the email address to the email address of their choosing.
Backside walkaround has lost access to their account as they used someone else's email address to sign up, and the owner of the email address got tired of random email notifications from this site after a few months and reset the password.
