Ok, so if I wanted to change my username, but that username was taken, am I allowed to contact the owner of that account and purchase it off him? Then I will have access to the account I want, and hopefully contact Theymos for a name change.

Is this allowed?

looking for a signature campaign, dm me for that

Unless you have reported a large number of posts, have contributed to the moderation in some other way, have invested a significant amount of your time in helping the Bitcoin community in one way or another, or have an extensive trading history, or run some kind of Bitcoin related business, the chances of getting your username changed is basically zero.

Has theymos actually said this? Seems like a few people have had their name changed recently. Not sure if Cyrus has been doing it or not. Not sure it's a good idea though either. Half the forum will then want their name changing and this can easily lead to confusion.

I don't think so. However, I guess it should be implicit in some way. Why should random members (e.g. which haven't contributed to the forum in any way or form be granted name changes when that's usually a function that required donating to the forum?

No, but this seems to match the description of the people who have gotten their named changed.

It would also make little sense for theymos to take the time to do a favor for someone who does not at least meet a similar to above criteria. Why would theymos want to do any work for someone who has done nothing for him, nor the community as a whole? The same generally seems to be true in regards to those whose accounts he recovers.

Apart from what quickseller said, you can buy a V.I.P member status for 50bitcoins, only then you may have a chance. Other than that, you have literally zero chance for it. If you want another nickname, start a new account. It is free :p

Pretty much this ^^ Grin Grin

If I started my account now I'd probably go for something else, I kind of rushed making one up & wasn't full of inspiration that day but it doesn't bother me that much.

I don't know why some people are so desperate to change their username, it's not really important. It's the quality of the account that matters not the username.

Changing an username is not a big deal,if the admin has the time to do so,but in a forum with half a million users the chances of someone requesting a name change will be high, so what do you mean by contributing to the forum, did you mean donation.

I thought the mods have the ability to change the username, since this forum deals with finance, changing an username can have its implications, you must start a thread to showcase the changed usersname details  Grin Tongue

Theymos was the one who changed my name (but I did PM both of them).

That's pretty accurate. Just thinking about it, all of the members whose names have changed were all hero or legendary, had high trust, were pretty active, and were well known on this forum. And I think most of them were on the list of "most accurate reports made" that Theymos published a while back.
