480 vs 390x vs 390 with ETH mining

I was wondering why the R9 390x was not a topic of interest to most miners... All the time I see people applauding the 480, 370, 290, etc...

The reason why I am asking is because my latest ETH rigs setup consists of 8 x 390x and 7x 390 cards and they are all performing very well with an average hashrate of 33mh/s for the 390x and ~31mh/s for the 390 and max-load temperature ranges 75-82 celsius. (Mainly differing due to some air flow issues I need to work on)

I get the 390 cards brand new for as low as $250 and the 390x for ~$320 which is why I am considering the 390 as the best investment.

My electricity prices are around 4cents/kw.

Am I missing something? Isn't the 390 card the best at mining most algorithms without the need of any bios edits?

perhaps it seems the best on paper, but the consumption is not only about electricity cost, you need to factor bigger psu and better cooling when you deal with gpu that consume a lot

And did you measure how much electricity a single card takes? I mean 390 and 390x... I'm also considering to buy those to my rigs, however from my point of view one of most important factor is electricity.

Yes, that is very reasonable electricity. Mine is 12 cents per kWh. I need to get the most efficient cards I can

390 is pretty much the best choice to have, as long as your electricity cost is cheap. Probably a perfect choice for you, very nice per unit price you got there, makes my mouth watery. I've $0.15/kWh so that's why I use RX 480.

Why your 390x is about 10% faster than the 390. I read from the forum that they more or less the same speed.

You have an incredibly low energy price, so those cards are perfect for you..
I pay around .20$/Kw, so those cards are impossibile to keep powered...

With that electricity price, you have to make the 390 to be very efficint to mine. You have to undervolt it a lot.

That electric price is really low so you can mine on 290/390 hardware and it won't make much of difference in your power fees.

The 290/390 cards are a beast when it comes to hashing.  On my 290s they are refurbished models and the core clock is too slow to take full advantage of the vram and utilize about 80% of it, over clocking I can get 29mh easy and 90% vram utilization.

So no you are not missing anything, people have moved to these cards because of power consumption and high rates.  You can get similar hash with  modded bios and lower watts.

the only limit of using the 390 is that if you have the total limit of the power consumption, you cannot get high hash rate.
