Hi there what light weight wallet can i download on to my laptop that i can then get to connect to my node at home?

Electrum should give you the ability to do that (but you should setup an Electrum server in your home PC first , there should be a guide somewhere in the forums)

I took the picture from google image as I didn't have Electrum installed on my PC , I only wanted to show him that he could connect to any server.
