Correct me if I am wrong, because I am not a good Trekie... Was the federation credits issued by the federation or was it some sort of

public currency? I think the main difference was that it was possibly a centralized technology, and not a public decentralized p2p network,

as we know it. In my view, federation credits was government currency in a digital form.

Well, OP also thinks federal credit is digital currency same as bitcoins hence, bitcoins can as well be classified as money instead of property according to the US law.
