Bitcoin forum crash IE10

Randomly, when browsing bitcoin forum, it crash IE 10 with this dialog:



Message: "Internet Explorer has stopped working. Windows is searching for a solution on the problem".
After a while, the page reloads and say


"A problem with the website made Internet Explorer to reload the tab".

Maybe some admin could fix this website problem?

And maybe Microsoft could just fix their buggy browser.

(hint - don't use rubbish software and you will have a better experience)

Why do you blame IE & Microsoft? Its only bitcoin forum currently who crash IE10, the latest.
Its a bug in the JavaScript.

Since the crash appear when you change page, it might have anything to do with OnUnload or OnBeforeUnload event on this webpage.

I cannot even *use* IE with a bunch of my own Javascript - they don't do JS properly (nor probably care).

It's entirely up to you which browser you want to use but don't expect that everyone should change things to suit bad software.

From what I hear, IE has become pretty good from version 9. However I think no browser should hand because of problems in the JavaScript code of the pages it is used to browse. If IE10 crashes just because of JavaScript bugs, then I wonder what else someone with bad intentions may be able to exploit with it... definitely I don't recommend using it if you care about security.

No, its not a security issue, a DoS exploit in noncritical client software is not a concern, as long as you need to stay at the malicious webpage for it to DoS.
For example, if a malicious JavaScript code could DoS at arbitary times, it can be fatal if you manage it to DoS in the middle of a webshop transaction, leaving you without funds and with unpaid status on your Products.

But now, its not at arbitary times, its only when you stay at the malicious page, and on top of that, each tab is sandboxed. So the page can essentially only DoS out the user from itself, in other Words, no security concern at all.

DoS in server software is a entirely Another chapter.


So using this "exploit" in a intentional matter is not fatal at all, all they can do is crash the browser... fine with that, that makes you exit the malicious webpage.
So this bug is not a concern for security - as long as the webbrowser is not part of a critical system where its not allowed to be exited or crashed.

My point was not about this specific problem, but more like "if one can crash the browser with JS, who knows what else one can do".

With all the free browsers in the world, why do you insist on using IE10?  Normally, when something doesn't work for one browser, and yet works for every other browser to ever exist, we can rest the blame on that one browser.  I've had so many issues with IE not working right (and once when I attempted to create a website, I had to make special exceptions just to let the IE browser work at all,) that I don't see why you would prefer it.

IE 9 and 10 are actually pretty good. They are way faster and more stable than Firefox (for me, at least).

This problem is probably caused by some addon that you have installed.

I don't see why people object to a proprietary software made by one company that respects your rights and doesn't track you, then insist on using an "open-source" (translation: based on an open-source project but with a load of proprietary resources and code) software made by another company that sends the URLs of websites you visit to Google.

Just a while ago, on these forums, someone reported that Google was indexing several instawallet wallets. How? Google knows exactly what you're browsing.

I was more inclined to Gmail and Google Talk, but Chrome is a possibility too. Anyway, there is Firefox and lots of other smaller but still open source browsers like Midori in case you don't want to use Chrome. Chromium also has a lot of the proprietary bloat removed, you can inspect its sources and build it yourself.

Most forums don't work in IE10 as they're using special js for compatibility with IE, however IE10 works with normal js.

So, did anybody look at what specifically causes IE to blow up in such spectacular fashion?

Something really screwy happens, as I cannot even open Microsoft Word after such blow up (it also blows up) until I restart the computer.

Sounds like bad software, to me. I would suggest opening a ticket with Microsoft, and using a less buggy browser in the meantime.
