Total newb here...please bear with me... OK, so I was first getting about 130Mhash/s when I began mining a couple days ago using GUIMiner. Then I found out about flags, which upped my rate to about 185Mhash/s....which is better than some I've seen using this card. Thinking I would get even faster rate by using the i5-2500K GPU for my monitor, I switched over to it and now running only mining on the HD 5770. The thing is, I'm still only getting 185Mhash/s and GPU-Z is telling me that the card is only on +/- 10% load. Is there any way to get faster Mhash/s by pushing full GPU power to mining? That's what I intended to do when switching to the i5 GPU. (FYI (in case it's not obvious)...I'm not the most technically advanced human in the world. Please try to post answers using small words )

You might be able to push a little more out of it. Use: And switch between either or So something like this Also, drop the mem and up the core to push a little more out of it. This is a pretty good guide --> https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison#AMD_.28ATI.29

Thank you for that info. I already added those flags, that's what boosted me to +/- 185Mhash/s. The bad news is that my card isn't a Reference card, so it doesn't allow for much tweaking. The slightest change in clock speeds and it craps out. So....I suppose that 185Mhash/s is the most I'll be able to achieve. Seems odd though, since the GPU-Z monitor is stating no GPU load at all....I don't know, it really sucks being a tech-dimwit!

also use edit: that is a capital eye, not an ell Since your 5770 isn't your display device, this should be fine. Also, 185 is normal on stock. My stock 5770 got 188 normally with dynamic mode.

I'm sure it using most of the card. Haven't used GPU-Z in awhile, but I'm pretty sure it's reporting incorrectly. I use the AMD VISION engine control center. When I run GUIminer on my gaming PC, it reads 95%+. You might be able to push a little more out of the card by using the "-f" flag and setting it to 0. What that will do is set your desktop FPS to 0 so the GPU isn't splitting between mining and running the visuals on your desktop. Beware though! Your desktop may become extremely sluggish if you set it all the way down to 0. You might have to start at like 5 FPS and work your way down to 0 to see if it affects it. I think he's using the poclbm kernal. Pretty sure that flag won't work.

Hi, also newbie mining on a 5770 getting 183mhs stable for a few weeks using -w128. Just checking i can drop the mem speed and up the core? (Mem not being used much for mining?) Thanks! Myrdd

Check out this guide, and scroll down to the 5770 section. Lots of different configurations that people have used are listed. --> https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison#AMD_.28ATI.29I'd drop the memory to 300MHz, and start the core off at 900MHz. Fans should be fixed at 70%, and make sure the temps never go above 80'C. Between 65'C and 75'C are optimal. If everything is running fine, up the core to 950MHz. Run a 24h test. If it's still stable, keep adding 10MHz to the core and testing. I wouldn't go past 1000MHz. With that being said, getting 200+ MH/s shouldn't be too difficult. And there should be minimal risk of damaging your card(s). Best of luck!

Hi,
Many thanks for advice. I now have 194-201mhs! stable all day. (extra 10%! free!)
However I am a little concerned, with the fans on auto (it is running at 85% fan) but the temperature is at 89c! Is this okay?
It is in a very cool room (attic at 18C) and the pc is quite cool with a good exhaust fan.
Thanks.

Hi! Not so sure about whats normal for the 5770 but You should try to reapply the thermal paste (the card might be used for some time now) as I wouldn't go over 70. Hi,

Yeah, that's way to hot! As I said, you really don't want to go past 80'C. Fix your airflow and have a fan or two blowing on it.

My 6770 (very similar to yours) is getting 183 with stock clock of 850mhz. Im using Phoenix with:
WORKSIZE = 128 AGGRESSION = 6 VECTORS = true
I undervolted it from 1.20 to 1.05, and overclocked to 900mhz. Its stable with the memory on 1200mhz (the stock). And I managed to underclock it to 700 giving me better temps and less fan noise (45% controled by Speed fan).
Final temps: 60ºc CPU 71ºc Memory 45% Fan speed 194MHash
Hope it helps.

Waw thanks all!
I have an extra fan on it, and it is now at 79c with internal fan on auto (running at 75%).
I am getting 194mhs according to guiminer and 201mhs according to btcguild. I think I will settle for this.
Not bad for £40 on ebay! (Electricity is currently not a cost as its winter and I use electric heating) Card will pay for itself in 2months!
Nice to have mined my own bitcoin!
Myrdd.
