So I was browsing through ThePirateBay, and I see this warning page from Firefox:

"Reported Unwanted Software Page!

This web page at thepiratebay.org has been reported to contain unwanted software and has been blocked based on your security preferences.

Unwanted software pages try to install software that can be deceptive and affect your system in unexpected ways."

I could not understand, was this part of the government's war against torrenting, a possible conspiracy by Mozilla to smear TPB?

Turns out, apparently not! I looked it up, and TorrentHound and TPB are exiting, the sites are shutting down, but before they go, they decided to clog the torrent pages up with malware. That's a damn shame!!

Possible malware warning:

The advertising networks that websites like the piratebay use, are always scraping the bottom of the barrel as it were. The only people willing to advertise on torrent sites are usually adult in nature and many malware distributors will pay for their booby-trapped adverts to be shown.

I don't understand the reason behind that. Shouldn't torrent sites attract corporate level advertisers? I mean I know Google Adsense won't pay a dime for them.

That's not going to reflect too well on Apple if they were all over Piratebay. I assume the scummier and scammier the advertiser, the higher they'll pay. You could either pay for a nice click on your website or pay for the possibility of breaking into someone's computer and draining them of their worldly wealth.

Those fag browsers are just trying to scare you. It is not going to shut down. You probably use firefox or chrome browser. I don't know about firefox but google owns chrome and they don't like you to visit those pirating websites. That's why they warn you. In the future they may even don't show the website for your own good. (!)

I am using Chrome for the past several years, and I never had any issues with any of the torrent sites. (I am using a VPN though). If things get worse, I will consider using the TOR browser. But it is really slow, and I rarely use it with the exception of logging in to online dark markets. Also, there are other anonymous options, such as the Invisible Internet Project (I2P).

Good job bro, you're about to get raided soon. Don't go around telling people you're using online dark markets on Bitcointalk, this is where DPR was put on a watchlist, remember?

I had happened over and over again and yet they're up any time. I like TPB ever since i've been with torrent. only the big companies such as microsoft don't like them though. people will always find ways to share, the p2p technology is here to stay so use it for your own benefit and use torrent.

Only big companies? Small individuals trying to make profit with their products don't like them either. Try to make a software product with all of that piracy. You have competition from microsoft, apple, government and even software pirates.

The best those programmers can do it put their bitcoin address in the software asking for donations, that worked well for WinZip  Cheesy

Don't you know how he was caught? He put up his email address on here back in the day. He deleted it but someone quoted his reply and it was found by the FBI a few years later. Be careful out there, kids.

Tens of thousands of people use various dark markets every day. If the FBI want to detain all of them, then good luck with that. Being a libertarian, I don't like the government regulations, especially those related to personal choices. And one more thing. Dark markets can be used to purchase perfectly legal stuff -  such as bullion coins, prescription medicine.etc.

Thats site is one of the best site that where i can get movies or software that i can not seen to other site.. but looks like they are shutting down..
I think the problem is they are also sharing a lots of virus like malware people are download can be affected even you have antivirus..  that can give leads(earnings from a company) for those who are sharing malware. to push the victim to buy antivirus..

I think torrents era has passed. Too far advanced technology, you can now keep track of all those involved in the spread of pirated content. Especially thanks Windovs 10. We will pay for everything!

I don't think that's what happened, but, there are other ways they can trace you, that do not require any information about your account at all (ie time zones)

ThePirate bay is not shutting down mate for now I think but it will soon. It is illegal and is being pursued of course by law and later on I think their site will be shut down by the US government just like what happened to kickass.to. If they were to shut down though there will be another site that will provide us good torrent collection. It will also be pursued by law and so on and so forth.

The "illegality" of Piratebay is questionable. As such, peer-to-peer file-sharing is not illegal. It is the piratebay users, who upload/download copyrighted content. Piratebay is just a medium for doing this. Those who upload/download pirated content must be held accountable, and not those who run some website to help people in peer-to-peer file-sharing.

And in my opinion, downloading or uploading of pirated content is not a crime. The authorities may disagree, for obvious reasons.

It's a crime to upload/download pirated content in many countries, rightfully so. You can take a cab and refuse to pay, it doesn't mean it's not a crime. Someone offers a product or service for money, providing access to it for free is not a just thing to do. The creator on the other end of the line has to pay for food, rent. He/she cannot download food and rent from piratebay.
