Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
hit out at the US for not fulfilling their responsibilities in the Syrian ceasefire
during his address at the UN General Assembly in New York,
Friday, calling for Washington to take more responsibility in
"dissociating the so-called moderate opposition from the terrorists."
SOT, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian):
"The main thing now is to prevent the collapse of those arrangements
[between Russia and the US],
objectively and impartially investigate the undermining incidents
in Deir ez-Zor and Aleppo, particularly, that there’s many who want to
sabotage the agreed approaches to the Syrian settlement.
It’s essential to fulfilling the UN Security Council [UNSC] demand to dissociate the so-called moderate opposition from the terrorists. Here, special responsibility rests with the US and the members of their coalition.
Their refusal or inability to do this in the present circumstances can’t but strengthen the suspicion that it’s being attempted to remove Jabhat al-Nusra out of the harms way and that the plans for a regime change are still on the table.
This is a rude violation of UN Security Council resolution.
We will be not able to resolve the Syrian crisis and improve the dismaying humanitarian situation without fighting against Islamic State, Jabhat al-Nusra, and other joint extremist groups.
That's the key to ceasefire and accomplishment of the international settlement.
It is unacceptable to slow the Syrian negotiations without pre-conditions.
SOT, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian):
"It is absolutely unacceptable to use sports to make hostages of political ambitions, which always brought people together and strengthen friendship and trust.
The desire to take the right to predetermine of sporting contests does not honour those, who are showing off their commitment to fair competition, but in fact are flouting the UN approved principles and independence on the autonomy of sports competitions, impermissibility of any kind of discrimination in sports.
Today, we cannot use the philosophy of antiheroes of George Orwell 'Animal Farm', where all animals are equal, but some of them are more equal than others.
In the enlightened XXI century, it is simply indecent to mentor everyone around, to reserve the right to use doping, or to launch one-side adventures by bypassing the UN, to conduct geopolitical experiments that cost millions of human lives."
SOT, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian):
"If NATO understands a lack of perspective from their ultimatums, aimed at one-sided privileges. Russia is still open for equal, mutually respectful dialogue with NATO, also in the organisation of common security agreements. In order to strengthen the stability and providing undividable security, it is necessary to work in other parts of the world, especially in the Asian-Pacific region.
Recent actions of North Korea, which violate UN Security Council resolutions, must be stopped.
We call Pyongyang not to use the nuclear program and return back to the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons regime.
At the same time, it is unacceptable to use this situation as an excuse to increase military presence in north-eastern Asia and expand another opposition area, ruled by the US."
