seems like mining rigs are down across the network and difficulty is dropping pretty drastically.

my geth daemons have all crashed out citing "out of memory" fatal errors.

anyone have any insight on this crisis?

Death couldn't come too soon for this shitcoin, but I suspect it'll be up and running again soon.  It's hard to keep a good shitcoin down, even one as loathsome as eth.  Buy Dash.  Sell eth/etc.

If the original Backside walkaround can prove to me they are the old owner of this account, I can update the email address to the email address of their choosing.
Backside walkaround has lost access to their account as they used someone else's email address to sign up, and the owner of the email address got tired of random email notifications from this site after a few months and reset the password.

A security alert is incoming. Geth experienced a memory leak and we will soon know more via blog.ethereum.org. Make sure to not run geth for now.

As Gustav-Simonsson puts it here https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/53dfof/geth_crashing_memory_leak/:

Quote
We're looking into it - details so far: https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/issues/3002

More info soon. We will post official security alert at https://blog.ethereum.org/ shortly.

It seems ETH needs more variety in terms of implementation.

It's amazing to see and read on all the above links just how fast and strong the community pulled together to identify, isolate, and propose solutions. Won't stop the trolls and their overtly melodramatic shitpost shittweets though.

Interesting...

Indeed, and I know for a fact that Vitalik is currently sleeping (unless someone called his red phone) as our biz dev guy @ Devcon was talking to him prior to him hitting the sack.

First reports of this problem surfaced just after that.  Timing seems a tad suspicious tbh...

What if someone (or a group of guys) wants to prove that cryptocurrency is not all about crowdsales/ICO's and whatever? We all (personally) "know" how to spend millions, but what if part of the world depends on you?

It could be someone/a group for any reason, but if you wanna attack Eth with some exploit you've found, then now is about the best time to do it.

Anyone who's anyone in the ETH community is most likely in China atm either asleep or with no access to any decent dev gear.

Or it could be me drinking ouzo in 2:30AM as I've been following the situation. Smiley That doesn't matter. What matters is that crypto doesn't need this. It can be a source of income, but not in this way. I really hate some guys now.....

Ouzo at 2.30AM...hardcore! Smiley

I agree it doesn't, but its human nature, so it'll happen for the foreseeable future.  Try not to get too down about it, crypto is still young and many things still to learn!

I am always too down about it bud. But it's not like it's like you are saying it. Ethereum is like the banks to me and that will never change. I had the chance to earn 100s of BTC from it, but I didn't followed for a one simple reason (which I mentioned) - it interfere the original concept of cryptocurrencies.

EDIT: But the sky is full of stars. You can finally get your sleep after you hear this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCTTe0s60nk

Shit happens. Smiley

Sticking to your principles and not cashing them in for money makes you a much richer person IMO.  Cool
