I built my main computer all the way back in 2011. I can't believe it's been that long. And I just don't see any reason to upgrade. We have sort of reach a point where for most people, the benefits aren't going to be that great for the money spent. Being that this is a Bitcoin forum, and people here mine, etc. How often does the average person here upgrade their computer?

If you want the best stuff you gotta upgrade in a 1 or 2 year cycle.

Yes, but I have an i7 3770k, with 16GB of ram, an SSD and I don't mine. The computer runs beyond smoothly. It doesn't seem like it would be worth upgrading. I wouldn't be surprised, since I don't play games anymore, if I'm still using this computer in ten years.

I did have a pair of r9 290x back when I used to mine.

My main computer is 2 years old. I used my previous computer for 7 years, until the graphics card could not keep up with modern software.
It is not fast, but runs smooth with SSD.

One and a half.

I used my old laptop more than 5 years, so i guess 5 years is their lifespan. I don't do heavy stuff on my computer and rarely play games so i don't replace my computer in every 2 years like most people here.

Couldn't you just upgrade your GPU?

my computer is old enough to be thrown away out of the window. but i kept using it, its slower to kept using windows system still and so i installed lightweight linux system such as mint and so it works well now.  it a waste to throw it as it still work so its good. after all i just use it for office works.

That used to be me, always looking to upgrade, but most changing graphics cards CPU and RAM, that was the best to do imo these days its out of the question.

I am now stuck with a five year old computer, that has seen better days, graphics are rubbish now, failure imminent green tints all over.

And its gone.

Believe it or not but this is my main computer. IBMX41, it was manufactured in 2006... so, yes it has 10 years and what a decade it was! 10 freaking years of constant working nearly 20/7 and its still kicking. Boots up very fast with lightweight Unix OS, some bigger and heavier websites can slow it down...no miracles Undecided  it uses only 18W Grin This stock foto is not much different than my x41, looks like it was bought last month. They dont make them any more like that.

Haha. My computer is as old as the mammoth. All will not be updated. Well, it is already ten years exactly.

If your computer is running slower on Windows, when in the past it didn't, then check your startup programs, pressing CTRl+Shift+ESC.

Or do a clean install.

The hardware is still the same as the day it was bought.

Right now as you are asking, I don't exactly know nor care about it's age. Bought a new casing, still stuck on migrating the old parts into a fresh hull.

The plan is about stuffing the old case with some cheap spare parts to puff it up as a secondary, for boring or long durance tasks.

I just looked at the specs. Omg, old. I mean, can modern browser run smoothly on it?

I don't and had spent a few grand on one and sold it to a family member for chump change.
I had two more older ones that still work fine..

Since gaming died at GTA:SA
I have had no interest ever since in any of that crap anymore.
Make HL3 or fuck off !

So..

I am running a machine for Windows Media Center on Win7 + Web Browsing basically.
AMD Phenom X4 9950 "BE"
On an old AM2+ board.. a lame piece of crap.

Works perfectly fine.. although if i need to do a video encode etc it will obviously take a million years LOL

..what ever works for your needs Wink

I bought different parts used on eBay, so who knows what the true age is. A core2 quad cost around $16.
