With the core wallet you can sign messages easily. If you search the forum, you can find a tutorial about "how to sign a message" To be honest, even i just learned how to do it. :p Core wallet needs to download 90gb of data though it sucks.

http://support.mycelium.com/hc/en-us/articles/207111419-How-can-I-sign-a-message-or-see-my-used-addresses-

Mycelium can do this and a fine wallet it is too. I think plenty of them can do this these days but that's one of the best.

Electrum can be used to sign messages, and they have an android version to (altough i'm not completely sure you can sign messages with the android version).

I'm a bit confused about the fact that you are talking about offline wallets, but you want a wallet for your android device... You realise that for signing messages, the wallet needs access to your private key, so when you sign a message from your android device you either need a device that never goes online, or it is by default an online wallet instead of an offline one.

you could potentially install electrum on an offline machine, export the xpub and make a watch-only wallet both on an online pc and your android device.
You then generate a transaction either on android or the online pc and transfer it to the offline machine for signing.
Same goes for signing messages: you need to transfer the message to the offline machine for signing, and to an online machine for distributing/posting the signed message or tx.

he's asking something which can work on mobile too. and I don't think bitcoin core is mobile supported (never used my self but 90gb data cannot be stored in mobile)
I think for OP the coinbase is the best choice. coinbase is totally mobile friendly and he can sign message from there too..

Almost any modern wallet , desktop or mobile has it as a feature.

Desktop wallets with such feature
Bitcoin Core
Electrum
Multibit

Android iOS wallets with such feature
Mycellium
(Please do not bother to try anything else, is not worth your time and effort).

While everyone is right, I am pretty sure that in the advanced settings of almost any software wallet it can be done.  Plus, if you have downloaded the entire blockchain, whether with a wallet or not, it can be done through CLI, but that can be tricky and I would not advise anyone to just dive in and start that.

I think that all of the desktop wallets that are in bitcoin.org can sign messages. For online wallets, there are Coinbase and blockchain.info. I wouldn't recommend using online wallets for big amounts of bitcoin though, seeing as they are unsafe.

I'm interested in this too. I think my wallet doesn't sign messages, I'm using bitwallet for ios.

Can anyone recommend a wallet that can sign messages, has a desktop program and ios app, syncs with other instances, and the funds are held by the wallet and not by the operator/company like coinbase?

I guess you can find the information from this forum because every wallet has a different way how to sign a message. this how to sign message with blockchain.info web wallet https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1467458.0 maybe same with mobile wallet too.

->Which wallet have you generated offline ? Pretty much you can have offline versions of most of the wallets.
->You can sign messages from Electrum desktop wallet. Not sure if you will be able to sign messages from their android version.
->To be clear, you can actually sign messages from blockchain.info on your android phone's  browser but that again would be done online.
