That's a legit possibility.

you think it is! there is a difference.

This new coin will probably take many of the innovations that we've seen in other coins.
He can easily prove his identity here on Bitcointalk.
If all this happens, the media coverage for Bitcoin will be at an all time high, and could possibly multiply the current crypto users.

first of all this is not going to happen, unless another scammer like Craig Wright is coming out saying I am satoshi and people believe him.
but if I want to for one second assume it can, then yes the media coverage and the hype is going to be big and it can pump the price.

Quote
This new coin could probably kill Bitcoin.

No, there is nothing wrong with bitcoin and bitcoin is going to be still a lot more powerful than a new coin that even satoshi presumable makes. because it is an established coin with a very long history; from 2008 ish till now is 8 years of constant development and bug fixes.

Nothing could kill bitcoins as it's a totally different thing and will never get destroyed by anything...
Do you think it is Bitcoin that is just Bitcoin alone and nothing else is involved???
If no innovations would have been in this, why would this asset still be stable even after many others opting for Monero which has proven to have far better security than this when it comes to being anonymous???

Ok there will be a possibility that it can over take bitcoin. But also think that the possibility you are thinking of is a little optimistic. There is also a good chance that it cannot overtake bitcoin. Because bitcoin is already an established cryptocoin and the new coin will start again from the beginning. What if no one will support it? What if the idealism of Satoshi is already gone and that the only thing driving the cryptosphere is only to make money?

I believe earlier you said that like renewable energy, there are powers to be that will not let Bitcoin died. It's established, to many powerful people are invested in it. But what if "Satoshi" was part of this group and they decided to start a new coin with new features that will further their agenda.

you are suffering from a well known and widespread condition that thinks of Satoshi as a Godlike being. whereas Satoshi is like any other developer just a human being who has has created bitcoin but bitcoin is not even the first cryptocurrency that was created!!!

so even if Satoshi creates a new Altcoin and we are sure that Satoshi is in fact THE Satoshi, that coin falls under the same category as the rest of Altcoins and if it is good (again just like any other altcoin) would become successful and people would adopt it.

No. I do not see Satoshi as a God. The logic is that Bitcoin is by far the most popular crypto currency. And seeing alt coins and how hype and promotion can really push it's market value high, the one possible thing that could happen to overtake Bitcoin is if Satoshi himself created a new and innovative Alt coins with extra features. Everyone will follow any news about that coin.

If I'm not mistaken, Satoshi created Bitcointtalk (I hope I'm not wrong about this) and can easily prove his identity as a founder. Though I don't know if his account is locked. There are also wallets that are believed to be his.

Price is irrelevant.. adoption is all that matters.

So it does not matter what people at this forum think.. we are not the target demographic.

Satoshi could make a new coin pumped up to $1,000000000000000000000000000000000000
I would give 0 fucks.

I would like to see the real first bit of innovation and real adoption though.
Ya know.. a "currency" used by the whole world.. AKA: The point to this shit.

And i doubt aping the concept of "block-chain" is going to do much.

My own opinion is that he reemerged after realising the terrible BTC block size and transaction times so he created ETH. It makes sense.

Then your alarm clock went off honey..

You think he'd show his face to pad the bags of some scammy ICO ETH cunts ?
What he would do is pad his OWN BAGS by improving Bitcoin.
His position would be a way to get the BTC ducks in line over the block size drama.

And those of you assuming he would make a new coin.. think again.

Noticed the Litecoin dev's talking about implementing ANON features ?

Get this idiots.. you don't have to make a *NEW* coin every time your ass is itchy.

@Fraudcache
your necro-topic-bump will not help your ETH ICO scam bullshit (no one cares)

This new coin will not kill bitcoin. Bitcoin already has a solid foundation and a good running economy behind it. Any new coin will have a hard time to surpass bitcoin even if Satoshi himself started a new cryptocoin. The market is already established and there are real companies that support it. That is the power of the market and the economy.

Here is a question for you. Despite the leaps and bounds for clean energy why do you think we are still dependent on crude oil?

Agree with this one people would not jump off easily for another coins made by the same dev, bitcoin is really strong crypto for now and business slowly adopting it and marking as their e-currency option,  it will take some many years to lift up and make to the point that it well level to the bitcoins fame,

Satoshi is not the one directing the bitcoins fame, the fact is the people made it popular so the big possibilities that bitcoin will still the no.1 crypto eventhough satoshi would create another project coin.

Satoshi left mid-conversation around the time of a hyped article in 'PC World' and it is blindingly obvious had good cause to leave.

bitcoin is like satoshi's baby and why would someone abandon his baby and make another one in its place and want to push that to the public?!! that doesn't make sense to me so it is not a legit possibility.

besides if satoshi was looking for profit from making a pump and dump altcoin he would have sold his bitcoin stash when the price was above $1000+

I will align with thus in the sense that even Satoshi won't believe Bitcoin would be as popular as this as at the time he is making this coin and this is not even his only effort but the combined effort of invisible but important minds who bought into this idea and gave it the publicity to make it what it is today and I Dont think with all the effort and infrastructure put in place would be let go just like that...

Satoshi is a wanted outlaw, i don't think he will ever come out and create another coin because that would be putting his life in danger.  If he will come out, he maybe just be saying goodbye to all and die.

Maybe because its SO far removed from his initial vision that he now thinks its a lost cause.

I mean look at it, does it really look like the future that Satoshi imagined?  This space is full of centralized 3rd parties attempting to take control, integrating Bitcoin into the existing centralized payment systems and all anyone cares about is making a quick buck.

Bitcoin, Satoshi's vision and crypto in general has been poisoned by the very same people and greed that he was trying to free everyone from.  If he hadn't have left when he did, he would have at some point soon after!  Sickening!

You can't be sure about that. I think it's not just because Satoshi will create a new alt coin, people will support it all the way. Yes it's possible that people will also use the new coin, but it doesn't mean that they will let go of bitcoin. Bitcoin have gone through a lot these past few years, and it's not that easy to get all of that achievements.

What if Satoshi emerges and says something like: "The coin that's best following the values I stated in paper back in 2008 is Monero. So I would be glad to join their efforts and continue to strive for real money". That moment, Monero would shoot about 100x and Bitcoin would be buried. Not so impossible scenario if you ask me.
