A few years ago, this forum was as busy as a Bee, with people trying to promote Bitcoin. The price was close to $1000 and people were

dishing out give-aways and doing treasure hunts and Puzzles.. and everyone had loads of fun. Lately, we only see Ponzi schemes and

cloud mining and people trying to take money from other people. Let's see some tipping on forums and Bitcoin Air drops and some active

Bitcoin promotion again, to increase adoption. Let's bring back the good ole days!  Roll Eyes

Ponzi schemes and (cloudmining) scams are not a new phenomenon. They have been around since the early days. Making money was always a motivation in the Bitcoin ecosystem. So I don't think that there have been fundamental changes, though I agree that giveaways have become more rare these days.

On the other hand I don't think that giveaways are a very good way to promote Bitcoin use. If you receive something for free you are less likely to perceive it as valuable compared to having done some work for it. The best way to promote Bitcoin is to show its usefulness as a form of payment. So accepting and using Bitcoin are the best way of promoting Bitcoin - especially if done cross-border. If you run a business, you might also offer some discount for using Bitcoin to make surpassing the entry barrier more attractive.

I've never been a fan of aggressive Bitcoin marketing. People will come to Bitcoin if it has advantages for them. Aggressively promoting Bitcoin might quickly lead to disappointments if people are not prepared for it.

Mainstream adoption & media interest in bitcoin seems to have died down recently. It's all a bit disappointing at the moment. We HODL on though.

Edit - Just to add that yeah I agree with the OP, the forum is so quiet now compared to how it used to be.

promoting bitcoin within a bitcoin forum is silly. and it should be obvious why.

its like promoting a music band, by telling people the band is playing on day X. seems a good idea... buy
by handing out leaflet only inside the event on day X to only the people already at the venue after they bought their ticket. not a good idea

to even sign up to this forum you need to have already heard of bitcoin and had more then a fleeting thought about it to want to search about it to come across this forum.

so doing bitcoin giveaways on this site is not converting anyone or introducing anyone
due to the logical fact everyone on this site already having some grasp or heard or knows of bitcoin.

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.

Tips seem to be mostly dried up due to a lot of members not realizing they can do this, might be a nice feature to add like a button as people seem to be unable to figure out they can tip by sending to the address in a lot of members profiles.

As for community I suspect a lot of people got sick of the bickering that went on with personal agendas usually surrounding financial gain by slandering another member to drive off competition.
The scamming has increased due more third world Countries joining into the scene and not having many options to get themselves established or unwilling to put in the work. It evident in the poker scene with the cheating and seems to be the same here with lending and other business where there is a exchange.

The people that drive bitcoin in a political way got tired of hitting their head against a wall with signature spam or people looking to make a fast buck. These are the people we need to drive back into the community.

Achieving big price levels would be most effective self explanatory way of promoting bitcoins. Higher prices of bitcoin will turn each and every one's head toward bitcoin. Price appreciation is possible when we have mass adoption from new people or continuous saving from existing adopters.

Promoting bitcoin is more important, but spreading awareness on saving bitcoin is most important and comparatively easy task in my view.

I continue to believe that Bitcoin will only succeed when both of the below show more success:

1) More merchants of all kinds accept Bitcoin.  Ask those with whom you do business if they would accept BTC!

2) More people start buying and using it.  Tell your friends and family.

Large upward price movements certainly would increase visibility of BTC, which would be somewhat positive.

I agree with the above who write that BTC promotion is of little use.

It is disappointing to see the all the energy about economic freedom turn to greed. First the grass roots projects began to dry up, then infighting ruined whatever organized attempts by groups like the bitcoin foundation were tried. Now it's just a lot of "Wut computer buttons do I push to get rich?".  Few even seem to want bitcoin, they are just using it to get fiat.

Well brothers, bitcoin will grow because of what YOU DO. For example: Message Amazon today and demand to pay with bitcoin. It would take 5 mins. and if a tiny fraction of us did this it would happen tomorrow and bitcoin would soar. So ask not what bitcoin can do for you, but what you can do for bitcoin.

seems like people want to hold their bitcoin and at the same time get some free promotion. yeah you go and promote bitcoin, so the price raises and i hold on to it and make a profit.
i guess people then where more driven by the idea to create a better wold and not only score some profit.

basic but true. excitement's pretty low these days despite the fact that you could've made some very good gains if you'd bought at the right time. the way the world works is that the dumb only get excited when a bubble's about to peak. then we have another few years of bitter newbies to enjoy.

I used to remember the time when there were a lot of airdrops and giveaways on /r/bitcoin and people swarmed to collect these and lots of fake accounts were created just for the sake of abusing such giveaways. Also in the long run, promoting Bitcoin by means of having airdrops or giveaways isn't healthy cause it limits others from realizing the core value of Bitcoin. Lets treat Bitcoin like any other form of currency, and it's good for people to earn it than to receive it for free.

a giveaway might be a good way to bring in some new folks, but this forum or r/bitcoin is not a good place for it. go on the streets and give it away there. but who would pay for it?

Yes i am too bored with the stable piece of bitcoin neither the rate is rising nor dropping. I can't decide whether to bit or sell bitcoin. So introducing new innovation in bitcoin would be hugely welcomed.I am just working a site where user can discuss about various works related to computing and in exchange they can pay tips. Paying tips will increase their rank and respect and having more respect will have them opportunity to earn more money from campaign of my site.

Well these promotions was not done on this forum only, it was done on campus and public areas and people came here to brag and to

load of fun. Let's just bring back that feeling.. of excitement and forward thinking. It's all business these days... boring!  Wink

i have been involved in alot of promoting. and it seemed that alot of the givaways just meandered and ended up as just circlejerking between people already involved with bitcoin trying to grab some free income. such as bitcoin prizes at bitcoin meetups. giveaways on this forum. and bitcoin things within bitcoin conventions.

we need to go outside of bitcoin conferences. we need to not offer airdrops only available if you have a ticket to a bitcoin centric seminar at a bitcoin friendly college.

things like
normal retailers selling normal products for fiat. giving away bitcoins as a free bonus.
every city having a bitcoin meetup to organise the next day of promote bitcoin in their city.. rather then just sit and talk about the glory of core.
use meetups to set up face to face exchanging or form idea's that help your city expand

Why not ask the Dogecoin community for help in organizing a promotion. I am certain that they have really nice ideas in mind. Also it will be easier for the Bitcoin community to promote Bitcoins because it is already proven as the most valuable cryptocurrency.

Maybe also a twin promotion will do the trick. Have the Dogecoiners promote Dogecoin and Bitcoin side by side like a friendly alliance.

I don't know why this has happened though. You would think that more people would join the forum with the amount of advertising going on, but the opposite happened.

Mainstream adoption & media interest in bitcoin seems to have died down recently. It's all a bit disappointing at the moment. We HODL on though.

I wasn't around at the start of the forum but I had a few friends that were and they said it was much more popular a couple of years ago.
