I was just wondering how Bitcoin Website Owners go about promoting their websites.

What is the first step they take?

What do you think would be most appropriate for promoting a website like ours (a directory for bitcoin websites)?

What could be the most effective campaign (in relations to the rewards that are given out)?

I like to suggest to go for avatar campaign. Signature campaign and avatar campaigns will get you more promotions and popularity to your site for sure, but going only for avatar campaign will get similar results but within budget. You can also try social media campaigns.

- link/banner exchanging
- guest posts on blogs
- buying traffic (do be carefull of your traffic source, so you don't end up paying for bot hits)
- getting listed on directorys, FFA's,...
- sig campaigns on bitcointalk
- being active on social media (bitcointalk, reddit, facebook, linkedin, twitter,...)
- make sure your visitors return by having good content, fast servers and a nice design...
- you can try to get them to opt-in for a newsletter
- promotional events like free raffles,....
- giveaways to your followers, or to people making videos or blogposts about your service
- asking for a recip link for listed sites

- Next step may be running a games and rounds to give away some freebies. Freebies will get more promotion usually.
- Signature/avatar and social media campaigns are other known ways to  promote.

You can try this:

- A main thread in some of the money and crypto related forum where it must be always updated. The numbers of forums must be great in numbers like 10 or more forums (at least to be more effective).
- You can also post a main thread in a general forum where all topics under the sun are being discussed.
- Use the power of social media (Facebook, Twitter).
- Organizing a signature or avatar campaign (Optional, although if you just want visitors it's not necessary).
- Make something interesting in the site that people will keep on coming back like the guy above stated, raffles, giveaways or something.
- Hire people who is really good in doing advertisement. Only one is enough.
- Automated email messages so that they can be notified about some updates in your site.

I think good way will be to use social media accounts to promote sites that will be listed in your listing everyday , using twitter may be good way to do so that the owner of those sites also retweet your post.

Another good way is to ask all the sites that will be listed to have banner or link to earnbitcoins.info which will increase backlinks and will help to get better indexed in search engines.

Other than this good SEO optimization is crucial in gaining organic search engine traffic.

This forum Is one of the bestest place to promote any bitcoin related website or business.You can either buy a ad space slot here or run your own signature campaign.Many websites have got good business from promoting here

As what others said the signature and avatar campaign is the best option to promote any bitcoin related website. But you can do allso promote your site in social media sites like twitter and facebook campaign also here in bitcointalk and I guess the last is making blogs or good reviews to promote your site. And many members here are eager to join any signature campaign here in bitcointalk. Just good luck to your business and project.

do promotions on a facebook group, I suppose it could increase real visitors for FREE, but make no mistake, just promotions in bitcoin related group, don't promotions in random groups if you do your fb account can get banned.

Try to promote your site on Twitter with many Hashtags, on Facebook you can try also with beauty pictures and a short and attractive text.

If OP will promote on social networks, hashtags is important, but too many of them is bad, because algorithm can read it as spam, and downgrade post reach. Also, in social networks text should be short but informative. Nice pictures is very important, users eyes will catch them.

A signature campaign may be a good and effective way to advertise a Bitcoin related site but not in this case.
This is not an online casino but a directory for bitcoin earning sites(hyips,fauctes etc)running a signature campaign is expensive and there is no chance op will cover the cost of it.He needs something much cheaper,a good SEO and creating a thread here are enough for a directory i think.

I just need to know about the first things is very important for advertising your site, how many amount already in your pocket for promoting your site? and we just not are choosing a random answer for you. we need more specific detail about your advertising purpose.

My suggestions:
1- advertise your site using Mellowads and Adbit, both are advertising networks, and they will advertise your site on other Bitcoin sites or blogs.
2- buy some advertising services for advertise your site on big facebook pages or twitter accounts
3- the above suggestions are cheap comparing with signature or twitter campaigns in this forum, if you have good budget, you can run signature or twitter campaigns.

Actually I am pleased with some good comments in this thread. I want to add something:

1. If you want to succeed you need to work relentlessly towards success and be dedicated. At first it can be hard. Fact: Coca-Cola sold 25 bottles in their first year.

2. Don't be stingy with your promotional offers, at first you will probably lose money from promotion and ads. But that is to be expected, you will earn later.

3. Boost your visibility - one thread in announcement section or services won't gonna cut it. Be active, either here, or on every social media platform. Everyday.

A Youtube video can help to advertise brands also. A nice professional video can help a lot to bring new users or customers to your service. And not only on Youtube, but in any other social media that allows you to post videos.

And if you really want to invest on it, buy an ads time on television hehehe

you should not think about promoting before these:

the first step is having a website that people "want to visit" i don't know much about yours but your name suggests it is listing ways of earning bitcoin since it is "earn bitcoin" and you say "it is a directory of sites". so in case you are listing real sites and posting links to legit sites and always watch and exclude the scams then it can be good. and people will come themselves.

another first step is a good design, it should load fast and have a good look and no or so little ads (non intrusive)

then as your second step you should look into SEO which is a huge world for itself.
and meanwhile you can start advertising on advertising networks (even google ads depending on your budget and your project) and also you can advertise on the forum here or the common cheaper way with signature campaigns.

Apart from signature campaigns, you can consider referral campaigns as well.
Most websites have some sort of referral campaigns, where users who promote referral links and ensure sign ups/clicks are rewarded.
