It is a pity that Bitcoin is pulled into this conflict. They used other methods before, and there are more anonymous crypto currencies out

there, that they could have used. It looks like digital warfare are going to be the thing of the future. {even though it's happening now}

Bitcoin is pseudo anonymous and not ideally suited for total anonymity. I think Dash would have been a better option.  Roll Eyes .. I hope they

can resolve their issues in the future.  Sad

No way man, this is something old and it's not about Bitcoin, it's all about hacker activity and so on... It happens since the cold war. It happens every minute and Bitcoin is a sand grain in this desert. It's just because it involves money and some ordinary angry between rebels in many rival areas, like the one cited. Nothing about war in the strict meaning of the term.

Pretty much my opinion, this is about someone hijacking something and requesting money to get it back. Bitcoin was just a convenient mean for an end to be achieved. They would do it in fiat, otherwise, the currency is irrelevant, what's relevant is the hacking that occurred.

well actually bitcoin got nothing to do with the hacking, but why in this case it seems like bitcoin is the criminal coin, whenever a hacker hacked some computer they will used bitcoin as the transaction, it is not good for bitcoin reputation
when the people asked for fiat they wont accused it the criminal currency, but when they asked for bitcoin, bitcoin is the criminal currency

so pakistani group defaced some websites if india's .. and then india supposed attacked back with simple ransomware.. hmm sounds like propaganda

here is why:
1. "indian hacker group". lol they didn't hack, instead they just used some readily available tool - cryptolocker. so i think its more script kiddies than hackers.
2. unless you know the faces of the script kiddies you cannot be sure if its indians, pakistani's, bill gates, cia, or even trump behind it claiming to be someone else.

for all we know it could be Pakistani's own government employees that got a trojan unintentionally or intentionally while at work(checking porn while on the job most probably). but due to some racial bias told their boss "i think the Indians done it" rather then telling the truth resulting in them losing their own job.

for all we know it could be an american 3 letter agency intentionally putting it on pakistani systems. but due to some future invasion tactic told the pakistani government "i think the indians done it" to then solidify a future reason for the yanks to invade another middle-eastern country under the ruse of defence.

this news is not really about bitcoin specifically but about drama of scriptkiddies putting publicly available tools onto systems that are obviously lacking good malware protection. which could result in another invasion of the middle east by the west all without real credible proof of the physical faces behind it all

Yeah, hacker doings, nationalistic pride/delusions, politics, etc.  Been going on since man had flippers and flopped out of the sea, will be going on until the sun burns itself out.  My take on it is that there's no bad publicity for bitcoin, whether it's from the dark markets, terrorism, whatever, because bitcoin isn't doing anything wrong in and of itself.  It's the idiots who are using it who are doing wrong.  And in the press reports, bitcoin gets a free plug.

If the original Backside walkaround can prove to me they are the old owner of this account, I can update the email address to the email address of their choosing.
Backside walkaround has lost access to their account as they used someone else's email address to sign up, and the owner of the email address got tired of random email notifications from this site after a few months and reset the password.

How the hell did Bitcoin even get dragged into this ? All I see is their systems and sites were hacked, but why does the news article even have to mention that they offered to pay in Bitcoins when there doesn't even seem to be a demnad in bitcoins by the hackers ?

the cryptolocker tool asks for bitcoins. but some 'group' claiming to be indians, and also supposedly claim to say even if somone paid the cryptolocker demand they wont release the lock.

but yes why is this about bitcoin.. (even though the blackmail is denominated in bitcoin) when the news is obviously about some script kiddy drama being twisted into some political propaganda of 2 countries

the way i see it is some bomber requires fertilizer to make a bomb.. and uses that 'tool' to make threats..

should we concentrate on the publicly available tools main feature(fertilizer/bitcoin). or concentrate on how it got there and who put it there.

After cold war is it bitcoin war?

I think you're mixing different concepts here: The mode of war (e.g. "hot war" vs. "cold war") versus the method of war (e.g. dropping bombs, hacking networks).

While a "hot war" always involves the use of physical destructive weapons, it generally also includes methods of the "cold war" (surveillance, infiltration, propaganda) which are not immediately physical destructive.

The hacking of IT systems of an opponent has been a method of war since years. The involvement of Bitcoin is just a special case of a general trend. So both in a hot and in a cold war, Bitcoin resources will clearly be a target for the opponents of war. However I think that the general exposure of Bitcoin resources to hostile infiltration attempts is relatively low and may only be applicable for very specialized cases, because the currency uses a decentralized network.

I don't think there is any relation between cold war and bitcoin. The recent cold war between pakistan and india may result few of similar types of events in futures but i don't think this gonna last for long time. And what is called as bitcoin war is really a confusing question. Grin

I am not sure what you mean about a Bitcoin war but I do not think that there is ever going to break out a war because of the Bitcoin that would be silly.

i had read the news few days back. So i think next war will based on technology of both the countries. when India had locked pakistani website then definitely pakistani also will do the same and there will bee data disaster and if that happens then country could suffer heavy losses. so technology should be strong specially in IT sector.

yup it sure is everyone is free to use it but that is actully making governments powerless and banks use(less) and hence it is disturbing the money balance in economical country . some people also think by this way others are sending their money outsite their country but it is exactly how everything should work we are like wholesellers they also export products from outside their country

Pakistan has been attempting to draw India into a fight for the longest time. India is just not setup to battle them on any serious level so they talk tough but walk softly when it comes to relations with them and China. Any serious issue would be bad for India even though they have so many people the military is not well funded.
The hacking is just another needle in issue and if I was to guess about the future,I expect these type of attacks to escalate to the cusp of war and then back off. Its interesting to watch these countries troll one another in this manner.

Did the cold war ever go away? Think it ebbed and flowed but stayed current enough to be easy to see today in action.

I was wondering why they should use bitcoin for this purpose, why wouldn't them just use the usual means they to attack each other instead of this. Doing this may affect the value of the bitcoin and may lead to innocent people loosing their hard earned money invested or stored in Bitcoin.

It's really stupid to involve any politic here.
Bitcoin is about freedom and equality.
We should all work together to promote it as means that average people become financially free and get rid from banks.
Nobody should use Bitcoin as weapon.
It's against main idea behind Bitcoin.
