Nice initiative!

Is there any way to list or avoid scammers from getting advantage of it?

If not, a black list might be useful, right?

Thank you!

We try our hardest to weed out anyone who seems of the unsavory type as we all know Bitcoin tends to lean toward these type of people. As project go along and they get funded we notice people interacting with the project creator because the people pledging our usually the project creators friends. This usually suggest they are above board. We do reach out and find out about each and every project as much as we can. I'm not sure how a black list would help! but sure. Great questions!

Good afternoon Bitcoin community!

We have more good news as two new projects funded!  First one, Electrum for Android. Second one, MadBitcoins!. Congrads to both projects!

Keep in mind you can still pledge to them or their stretch goals. If you are pledger to either project thank you for making the Bitcoin Community a better place.

I would like a way to get the funds even if the project isn't entirely funded. Maybe after it reaches a 50% level or a given number of backers. If a project gets more than 10 backers, or half the money it hopes for, it should be able to go ahead.

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

Yes, what you are thinking of is flexible funding like Indiegogo.  I was thinking of adding a check box when the project creator is putting their project up allowing them the option.  The only downside would be nobody would have any incentive to see the project to full funding and take whatever they get. I suppose that is fine. Good suggestion.

One of the first thing I've noticed is the last of tutorial or step-by-step guides on the site for crowdfunding itself. When I ran my campaign with Indiegogo (http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/faerie-dark-the-city-with-no-animals-installation) I felt really excited because they have excellent tutorials that make you feel like you can succeed.

I think this might have an affect on how many projects get funded. Looking at the list of not-completed projects, many of them have not great descriptions or no perks or don't look like they've been expressed to the best of the ability of the campaigner.

Of course, people have to take initiative to educate themselves on crowdfunding and what will work, but the most projects we have funded the better so I would say that maybe a little hand-holding in this case wouldn't be a bad thing and request some crowdfunding tutorials or formatting tutorials be posted on the site so that folks have a step-by-step process they can follow to create great campaigns. Even if you just did some interviews with the successfully funded campaigns asking them for tips or what they did to make such an attractive crowdfunding campaign would add more content to the site, build more community around Bitcoinstarter itself and help others launch better campaigns.

Oh! & perk ideas! I was kind of stumped on this last night. On my IndieGoGo campaign, getting ideas for perks was pretty easy. I just browsed other campaigns. But I've been having some trouble thinking of what kind of perks would be intriguing to the Bitcoin community so some solid suggestions of things to offer other than a public "Thank You" which I've been seeing on the site would also help get people talking too. We all like goodies.

Edited to Add!: Donation Reward titles! On IndieGoGo you can name your different reward packages fancy titles that show up in bold below the donation amount (You can see it here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/faerie-dark-the-city-with-no-animals-installation). Letting users input their own titles for the reward levels is a bit more layout-friendly and elegant than just listing the BTC amount. Smiley

Edited to Add #2!
: Reward limits! Is there a place to limit how many of a certain reward can be redeemed? For example, if I'm making a keychain a reward perk and I only have 10 of them, can I limit how many users can claim that reward?

Excellent idea!  a step-by-step guide is a great idea. Will put that on the list of things to-do for sure.

Yes, quality vs. quantity right now.  It would be nice to tighten up the quality of projects. The last batch of projects seem to be getting better. I do agree it takes the person really getting out there ( as if they were on Indiegogo or KS ) and showing passion for their project!

You are correct.  Some of things in motion to help this:

  • Newsletter: This is a e-mails sent to potential pledgers introducing them to projects
  • Q & A with Project Creators: This will be featured in the above newsletter but also on our Tumblr Blog and posted on
    reddit.

With your suggestions above I would propose each project creator gets a "packet" via e-mail with a step-by-step process of how things work and tips like you mentioned from successful project before them.  Like you said, this builds more of a community around the platform as a whole.

Couldn't agree more. I think since Bitcoin is such a niche some perks could involve like a reward of Bitcoin Stickers or trinkets of that sort.

Ah, I see what your saying like one of your tiers "Love & Ebooks!" . Good idea it's really eye catching and does provide a friendly and elegant listing.

Ah, good thinking like 1 taken out of 10 correct?  Good thinking. This can be added pretty easily.

Like I said this is very valuable feed back thank you!
