Reasons for using Escrow Services (provided by Escrow Agents)

WHAT IT IS: People trading goods and services can add a tool in order to "increase" the trust on both sides: customers and vendors. That may be done by employing an escrow system for all transaction. That additional step gives both sides some garantees.

HOW IT IS: This means that when you make an order the coins are deducted from your wallet, moves into a temporary escrow account, then after the vendor sends the order, he confirms it was sent. When you receive the package, you confirm it being received and the vendor claims the coin.

WHAT IF: If for whatever reason you do not receive the package you can send the order into resolution, where you and the vendor can resolve the problem or should that not work, the escrow service will step in an resolve the issue. Keep in mind this system is to prevent fraud on both the end of the seller and the buyer.

SUMMARY: Escrow services will not grant you 100% scam proof, but it is definetly an additional security layer in order to avoid coin losses and fraudsters.

All parameters here are subject to change, this is a work in progress...

If you got an idea, share it with us!

This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, just an preview for clients/customers in order to avoid scammers.

We cannot guarantee any member's reliability neither that your coins will be 100% safe. Due diligence is still necessary, do yours!

Ranking List: Escrow Providers (Image/link): http://image.ibb.co/geAV0b/escrow.png «Last updated on October 8th, 2017»

Escrow Provider Rating Grade → Thresholds per grade

AAA (Prime) → 25pts
AA (High grade) → 20pts
A (Upper medium grade) → 15pts
BBB (Lower medium grade) → 10pts
BB (Speculative) → 5pts
B (Highly speculative) → 1pt
CCC (Substantial risks) → 0
CC (Extremely speculative) → coins' release is delayed (over 72h) & escrow provider has no positive trust/feedback
C (Caution) → coins not released & escrow provider isn't responding after 3 failed attempts/warnings
D (Debacle) → coins gone & escrow provider seems to be on the run

Legend & Labels:

Rank: the member's position at the list;

Reason → General classification of escrow providers.

Member: member's ID.

Cryptocurrency: which coin the escrow provider works with.

Score: it is the following algorithm.

Code:
( 10 * sqrt(Trust) + 1 * sqrt(Activity) ) / ( 10 + 1 )

Reason → just trying to build our own kind of fair classification here.

P.S. Collaborations about a fairer algorithm in order to improve that task will be much appreciated.

Trust: the 1st number (left to right) the escrow provider got at bitcointalk.org Marketplace trust system;

Reason → "Web of trust" inside bitcointalk.org community.

P.s. escrow providers with overall negative ratings (1st number left to right) will not be accepted on the list (the same for those already tagged as "SCAMMER" by community staff).

Brand new members with "Newbie" and "Jr. Member" status won't be accepted on the list as well: go get some activity first!

Activity: the number shown at that indicator (under member's name/avatar);

Reason → It shows how active (and for how long) that member is at bitcointalk.org community. Members without activity for more than 6 months will be delisted.

Deal: Min. ≤ Max.: minimum and maximum amount of coins allowed/accepted while using the escrow service (in BTC or USD).

Fees: cost for using the escrow service.

Sign.: Does the escrow provider work with PGP signed messages? And/Or does he or she sign messages from an already staked2 cryptocurrency's address?

Reason → Signed messages are additional security measures in order to grant the client some Confidentiality, Integrity and Non-repudiation.

If you wanna apply for this list, please post here (or send me PM with) the following info:

1) Which cryptocurrencies do you work with?

2) Minimum and Maximum amount of coins allowed/accepted while using your escrow service (in BTC or USD);

3) Your fees;

4) Do you work with PGP signed messages OR signed messages from an already staked2 cryptocurrency's address?

[1] "Score" for the Crypto Escrow Team (CET) is calculated by adding all "Activity" and "Trust" numbers from all its members and then dividing those sums by that same number of group members in order to get a more fair and real score.

Not a bad idea overall.

...we are just trying to bring some transparency and turning this service into something a little bit more serious so newbies and unwarned people don't get scammed all the time...

I don't know about that thread.

I could not find the announcement thread to Mr. SebastianJu's escrow service.

Could I be added since I'm getting a lot of referrals with John away for a bit? Free/tips unless Cas' three-party escrow tool is used, then a minimum of .1BTC or 1% of transaction, whichever's greater.

Escrow sheet w/ previous & current transactions @ https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Ao892S4MOoDZdFFTc0tFbWVxUTZFVzVOMWxzV3pkclE&output=html

(BTC only, won't touch anything where a chargeback or account reclaim is possible, GPG available on request)

Don't mix your coins someone said isn't legal

How can I put my name on the list?

I know JohnK's busy moving now and that's given me some business.
JohnK's also on our local Whatsapp group that talks about everything on Bitcoin.
Had a 36 BTC escrow completed yesterday and I also run an automated escrow service at BTC-ASIA(see sig).
Thanks.
