I will give you only one recommendation - do not start with mining.

Its really not advisable to start mining now. With the difficulty as high as it is and the reward getting smaller and smaller it will be very hard to even break even. A better idea if you want to try out bitcoin is to buy some outright and spend it as you wish.

Buy a cheap miner and mine away?  Best miner for home use is the R7-LN or the R4 which is more efficient.  My power company just lowered their rates to 2 cents for winter.  I believe I will solo mine all winter and I may or may not hit the lottery.   Cheaper than a lottery ticket addiction in my opinion?

I believe you mean the S7-LN. IT actually won't profit for most people, as it's efficiency is comparable to that of the S7. The R4 is, imo, a waste of money; the S9 is a better and slightly more efficient solution. It's not guaranteed that you hit a block, and it can actually cost more than buying lottery tickets over a long time.

I'm also planning to start mining and based from most opinions mining is not really advisable for someone like me who want to invest using bitcoins.

my bit of advise for all the wannabe miners ,try creating a mining rig with AMD RX 480 and start mining alt coins ,the price comes around $300 for the graphic card ,so with a little investment you can start mining
