As you may have noticed, blockchain.info was unavailable earlier on. They released several tweets with updates on the situation, but nothing detailed.
One of them : "Earlier today, we discovered our DNS registrar had been compromised. We took immediate action to resolve the issue. "

This is exactly the reason i don't use online wallets, and niether should anyone. I'm really interested in seing the aftermath of this DNS hijack, and
hope there were no empty wallets. We should find out soon enough.

Yeah, many people lost access to their funds for 24-36h depends on DNS propagation.
Thats crazy, online wallets are joke and should be treated like change spend only (tips etc)

If anyone logged in or made an API call to their service at the time of DNS hijacking, then he/she should immediately change his/her password.

It's probably not a bad idea to have something like this instead of storing all of your stuff online. For quick transactions or wallets that you use to get Bitcoin from external sources it might have a use, and then store whatever you want to keep safe in your own desktop wallet on some sort of data storage device.

Well but still blockchain is doing their best just to protect the balance that has in the wallets of their users. Hackers are really going to do anything because of money. This is really the job of hackers is to get money easily for something that they didn't work for. I'm thinking if these hackers are being hired by someone or big companies. But I hope blockchain is going to upgrade their security.

I wasn't aware of this situation as i was out yesterday. But this reminded me when i tried to access my blockchain account with mobile wallet it give unexpected error but couldn't check what happen to blockchain. However just checked my wallet and thank god i haven't lost any bitcoin from it. But i will try to use paper wallets more often to store my bitcoin rather than trusting web wallets, how someone can easily access their domain account to change DNS. Inside job from their staff?

Security challenges are becoming biger and biger and hackers attacks are more often and bolder. And whatever we do there is no guarantee for complete safety. Cloud wallets are not the best solution but people will stil use them because they are convenient.
Hope that Blockchain will deal with this succcessfuly.

So basically even client side wallets like blockchain and electrum aren't secure as i have thought. But even when using online wallets better to backup private keys of the bitcoin addresses we are using in those wallets so that we can't loss access to those bitcoin even when online wallets goes down.

What could be easier option for online wallet users as downloading whole bitcoin wallet and using it is not easier option?

Get money easily ? are you serious ?

Hackers will be hackers, and they are vital for the progress of technology, cyber security and for Bitcoin.

BlockChain.info and Electrum have nothing in common, blockchain.info is online wallet that OWNS your BTC and they can be stolen by many methods, starting from phishing which is the basic type of attack to wallet compromising and you will lose your coins one way or another (you can also consider an inside job).

Electrum is more secure, especially if you are not using an OS for retards.

The best you can use is a hardware wallet like KeepKey requiring hardware authorization and reviews (you will see transaction details on the screen and click on the buttons to send the btc).

This is not strange at all, because Blockchain.info are one of the largest providers of online wallets in this scene. It might even be a government sanctioned operation to take it down. These sites have zero verification requirements, and pose a risk to these police state governments.

The golden rule, "If you do not own the private key, you own nothing"  < Although Blockchain.info do not store private keys >

Hardware wallets are just an optional choice for people that think they can gain more security, while in reality it's not really a necessity.

OP;

I am not really surprised by this since every exchange, gambling site and web wallets that hold quite a lot coins are targets of daily hack attempts.

The majority of these attempts are unsuccessful, but some times hackers find a weak spot/not yet exploited vulnerability that grants them some sort of access.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

well, the good thing is they took immediate action for this.. I hope mosts people's money are safe. I also use blockchain wallet. I don't store my money there for long time only some time I use to hold for few months. and I didn't lost anything yet..
but you are right being careful and using a 100% pool proof and safe wallet is better then regretting in future.

well, the good thing is they took immediate action for this.. I hope mosts people's money are safe. I also use blockchain wallet. I don't store my money there for long time only some time I use to hold for few months. and I didn't lost anything yet..
but you are right being careful and using a 100% pool proof and safe wallet is better then regretting in future.
As a blockchain user, so bad to heard this news.
This is why i don't story huge amount of bitcoin in my blockchain account.
I used it only for storing my spendable amount due to it's simplicity, well the safest way for storing my bitcoin is keep my private key offline. So Hardware wallet still the best for storing my bitcoin.

Even if blockchain.info was hacked and their database compromised there is no way that attacker will get access to your bitcoins this way.

Everything stored on theirs servers is encrypted. Even Blockchain.info doesn't have access to your password and to your private keys.

Furthermore, you have full control over your private keys and you can backup it and export to standard software wallet of your choice.

The only way to gain control over your coins is when when attacker will learn your password (i.e. via phishing) - but then you can still enable 2FA.
