There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. EWallets are like banks -- a central organization has complete control over your money. You shouldn't put much money in EWallets.

Im getting the same issues.  It was working 2hrs ago.  Im wondring if my ISP has blocked those ports or the router is playing up?  I'm trying to telnet stratum.bitcoin.cz 3333 and it just has connection pending.  Not sure if telneting would work tho.

So i just teathered my mining rig to my phone so not using the DSL connection, and it worked perfectly.

So either router or ISP issue for me.
