Hi

Just posted in the "intro" thread, so guess this is where to ask next.

Looking for some [solid] info on where or what is held locally on a harddrive, for BC.

Loosely put:

Had accounts back in the day [2008ish]
Know it had some paid/owed/exchanged BC in it [cannot remember how!]
Moved on to other things in life
Got laptops|harddrives out of storage
Looking to find|cash|re-active BC accounts/worth

Seems to be a lot of mis-information about what the early client actually stored or did locally
so thought here would be best place for some clarity  Grin

Note:
Not an expert in BC, but do remember nobody wanted to know and buddies thought I was
crazy at the time putting $ into BC or bartering with it!

Genuine post, so if you flame or advertise guess the mods will notice!

Thank you for any help.

Bitcoin "accounts" in 2008? Right...

Now, what you need is the file called wallet.dat, search for it using a file explorer or the command line.

Cheers psy

As said, not sure if they were accounts  Huh

Think only used 2 of 4 for getting paid and the other 2 for investing

Have run a *.dat on most of the drives, have not come across a named wallet file yet.

Is there a login format file or data file that is attached to the wallet?

EG: an email or ICQ # etc?

Guess will have to signup again to see what the proceedure is with the new clients.

2008ish as think it was a bit of C+ soft on beta that was running

It's like googles recent treasure hunt spoof, but for real  Smiley

Cannot believe how much a BC has gone up in $ value

1- Bitcoin was released on Jan 3, 2009, so, if you had any bitcoin "account" on 2008, it doesn't exist anymore.
2- There is no signup now and never one was needed before
3- Like I said, it's all on the file called wallet.dat.

It doesn't sound like you used bitcoin before, but something else that you're confusing with it.
