I have had a transaction siting with unconfirmed for about 4 hours now?Huh

what to do???

EDIT after about 12 Hours this went through...!

What I am upset about is the service I used took a fee, but paid the miners 0, and gave me no notice of this, and no option to pay the miner....So totally out of My control and they were still taking money

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

to answer the question in the subject line: as long as a miner don't want to include it.
what you do is WAIT!

So I had this sent from an exchange,  I suspect they did not pay much to the miner but took a percentage from me anyway....

If a miner never wants to include what happens?Huh

it does not work that way. a single miner can include your transaction, but a single miner can't force other miners to not include it.

have you downloaded the whole blockchain? the tx might already been comfirmed, but you can't see it yet becuase you have yet to download the block that confirmes it.

Sadly I have heard people having it unconfirmed up to 3 days, but I believe you can have it longer. It all depends on the miner, so be nice to it.

Now it says 1G##### (4 BTC - Output)
      187U#####- (Unspent) 4 BTC

what does unspent mean?

Complain to the service that you expect them to pay a miners fee.  Refuse to use their service until they agree. Let others know what service it is so they can avoid it as well.

or stop using the service, or shame them but publicly posting they aren't including fees for timely processing.
