Bitcointalk no ads option

I just found this interesting option when I wandering the "Modify Profile"

I've just googled it and then I found this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=868974.0)
it turns out that this option is just for Hero Member and above.

This is actually a nice, but I'm just wondering why is it only intended for Hero Member and above? Why not for every rank, or at least for a Full Member?
Is it because Hero Member has spent more time in this place, or for any reason?

Maybe the fact that the forum relies on ad revenue?

If it were for every rank, then there would be a serious decline in ad impressions. For Hero Members, it ensures that users have spent enough time on the forum to (probably) deserve the option to turn them off. I personally wouldn't do it - every little bit counts, after all.


Theoretically, this allows the forum to get at least 480 impressions [or a donation] from the members before they're allowed to disable the ads, though it's likely that most people post more (like myself).

It should be totally disabled, for whatever rank it is. Ads are annoying, as it is said, and it brings money to the forum. They need it (well, there's also a lot of wasted money too) to make it run smoothly.

Agree.There should be no such option to disable ads for any rank.I never use it as I want to help this forum in this little way.I suggest there should be some fee for disabling ads so whoever finds it annoying,can pay for disabling ads

If ads are disabled bitcointalk wouldn't still be running today due to the high operating costs.

Unless the forum receives enough donations to cover the operating costs ads should not be disabled cause it will negatively impact the forum.

It is still forum's staff good will to allow us to disable ADS at all. Only obnoxiously overdone and aggressive ADS are annoying.
Bitcointalk's banner is not annoying at all. I never disabled it and I never will if it will remains in its current state.

Ads don't bother me at all, like others have said ads are the only way the forum can afford to survive. People who promote a signature campaign don't really have grounds to moan about forum ads.

You didn't got my point. I said that the option to disable them should be disabled for whatever rank.

Haha exactly. We're a society completely run on ads so I wouldn't ever disable them. It's their livelihood afterall. Maybe the button to remove ads should remove your ability to post a signature  that would give people less incentive to check the box off.

Obvious thought will be taking off that option from every member regardless of the member status.
We live on ads actually, literally.
Better to send a request to the moderators about this. I don't think there is any member would oppose that.
