What is DEFCAD? http://www.defcad.com/I applied for a job at DEFCAD and they sent this email in reply: Dear Chris,
Haroon and Brian and I have raised about half of the money needed to get DEFCAD off the ground.
DefDist and DEFCAD.org got moving not because we had unique skill or insight, but because we could hustle and get creative when people tried to stop us.
I've received a lot of job requests. Before you show me you're a software or marketing god, show me you can raise $500. And do it in a clever way.
This organization will succeed because scrappers will keep it alive and deliver when times get rough. I know you're out there, so show me you want to work with us.
These guys are dedicated to keeping censorship out of 3D printing, and creating a site that will allow anyone to post 3D model designs regardless of how "dangerous" they might be. In my opinion, these goals are very similar to some of the goals we hope to achieve with Bitcoin. So let's show DEFCAD what the Bitcoin community can do! Donation address: 12ZTr52cinYN99cxYDRafRjsoc3RpPwccY (Note: even if I don't reach the $500 limit, I will be transferring 100% of the BTC (or USD if they want USD) to DEFCAD) Thanks everyone!

No offense, but, shouldn't I simply donate direct to DEFCAD? This isn't the type of innovation they're looking for; asking people for money on your behalf is something anyone can do. What are doing to up the ante? If this is it, I don't think you deserve that job.

Since the combine aren't invading, I doubt that anyone but criminals greatly needs to manufacture their own rifle ammunition. This is a bad cause.

I'm trying to reach out to the Bitcoin community, I'm not just asking random people for money. Like I said, I think that their goals align a lot with the goals that many people have for Bitcoin. If you don't want to donate, then I fully understand. But you don't have to shit all over my idea without at least suggesting a better one.

I can understand the frustration of being scammed again and again, but shooting people is not the solution.

What you can do with your money and what you can manufacture without regulation are 2 completely different things.

What you can do with your money and what you can manufacture without regulation are 2 completely different things. Not really. They both come down to the reality that it's immoral for some people to use force and threats to tell other people what to do.

Actually, I do, because your idea is non-existent. I've already donated to this cause. I'm not donating so you can fool someone else into thinking you're innovative. There have already been numerous posts about DEFCAD on this site. Nobody spreading the word before was asking for help to land them a job. And why should I give you any ideas? You've got an agenda to follow, and that agenda is, "Gotta get that job." You're a few steps above leech. If I have any ideas, I'll be sure to let the folks at DEFCAD know that it wasn't you who made them.

You have regulation on the manufacture of weapons for the same reason you have regulation on food standards, its a safety issue and is in no way comparable to regulation and the control of money and currency.

You have regulation on the manufacture of weapons for the same reason you have regulation on food standards, its a safety issue and is in no way comparable to regulation and the control of money and currency. Food doesn't need to be regulated by government; the government is a collective whore and the FDA doesn't give two shits if factories are up to standard, so long as they're paid well. Why can the people not regulate the food? For example: Bill ate a bad cheeseburger. The meat was tainted. The supplier of the meat was Company X. Bill lets his colleagues know not to buy from Company X because they produce tainted meat, for their conditions for the meat are bad. Company X goes out of business because they're not getting any business with their tainted meat; or, they improve the quality of their meat, and attempt to keep going with what they're going. What's the government doing that people can't? Right: making decisions for you. If Company X made bad meat CONSISTENTLY (and they do, if you've been keeping up with the antics of the food industry), and they lobbied to stay in business and stay in supermarkets, why should Company X care about cleaner food conditions? They shouldn't. They don't want to, because cleanliness costs money, and profits need to be maximized. It's a lot cheaper to buy a politician than the route I described earlier. This leads to a severe decrease in quality goods. This is the government to which you refer (I assume; sorry if you're not an American), and there is no scenario in a capitalistic society in which money does not apply. To regulate anything is to regulate money.

If I have any ideas, I'll be sure to let the folks at DEFCAD know that it wasn't you who made them. My "idea" was reaching out to a community that is against government intervention in most cases, and has some extra cash on hand due to the recent rise in the price of BTC. I understand your point of view, but you still don't have to be such a douche about it. Donating through me or donating directly is exactly the same from a donator's point of view - either way the coins go to DEFCAD. The only difference is that you would be helping another member of the bitcoin community (me) get a job. I understand that your specific case is different Mike, because you already donated to them. I'm not asking anyone to "donate again just to help me!". Sorry for being such a "leech" on the community. Sorry I'm a terrible person for trying to help an organization whose ideas I believe in (DEFCAD) while also helping myself. I won't post ideas here anymore.

Some of those are firearm related, yes. But the idea that they are proposing is a repository for 3D models with zero censorship. It's not a repo for gun parts, it's a repo for any 3D models that thingiverse doesn't like and takes down. Maybe we can just agree to disagree on this?
