Seeing how everyone or us newbies are scrambling to put our boots on and mine I wanted to know what people where thinking of putting together as their first or 2nd mining rig.

I for one have a extra radeon 5870, and old mb that supports it, I recently installed a vanilla windows 7 sp1 and got the card up to about 460~ average.  Ill prob buy another 5870 for the other slot and see if I can at least with one small cheap rig (most parts already had besides buying another video card) push it to 1G~

From their I'm thinking and its hard to get these cards is the 7950's which are for crazy prices on ebay, but maybe investing in 2 of those which I think stock pull in around 700~

So ideally my first 2 gigs would be 2 5870's, and 2 7950's pulling in potentially 2400~ ..

thoughts on other video cards to look at..?

I have a 7950 and just overclocked it to almost 600MH/s.  When the new PC comes in I will likely add a 2nd.  Not counting the PC as I was wanting to get it anyway for virtual machines and remote access (Precision T7600).  At that point I'm not investing in any more GPU based solutions because I have an ASIC on order.  Even if the ASIC falls through for me personally GPU doesn't have much of a future left.

Which ASIC did you get? I thought about it, but with the current whishy washy of them actually shipping one I'm a bit hesitant to get one, or if I do now Ill have to wait in a long line of others Sad

I have a Sapphire HD 7950 Vapor X and it pushes 600mhash O/C

Just bought another that is faulty due to artifacts in games from the bay for £100 Smiley

Should push me to 1.2GHash

Also took the plunge, don't know why, but I can afford the risk of ordering 2 BPL units for £240 incl shipping. Never know when I will receive them, if ever, but at least I have some paypal time to revoke and think about.

4 Gigabyte 7970s.  Woot!  For litecoins primarily, maybe bitcoins too.

If i get my BFL's they will be for bitcoins and the rig with the 7950's will revert to litecoins.

Get FPGA miner or an ASIC. Graphic cards aren't really great for mining Bitcoins anymore.

You cant get anything soon, everything is sold out and well lots of people dont trust these guys, I looked at butter fly labs and would love to get their small vesion for $249, not sure I want to wait 6 months for it or even put my money down cause all sales are final.. lots of threads about people having issues with these guys.. Sad
