Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

If you really want to mine Bitcoins and you don't want to burn your "decent laptop" you might want to have a look here:

https://www.bitmain.com/

Some people say they are the best in the business, but of course you can decide for yourself taking a look at Mining hardware comparison:

If you look at the hashrate an S9 produce compared to the power draw at the wall, there is not discussion, at this moment, it's the best bitcoin mining asic on the market. There is some discussion about their warranty process tough, apparently, they're not allways that customer friendly...

That being said, OP, even with a decent ASIC, there is no guarantee you'll ROI (get the money you payed for the hardware back after substracting the money you pay for your electricity).

If you want to mine, there are a couple of options:
- if you want to learn how to mine, and don't mind if you never ROI, and you're even using more electricity than you'll ever make in btc, you could go for a geccoscience compaq stick
- if you have really good electricity rates, PSU's laying around, shelves, cooling, you might start to calculate if you could buy an S7, S9 or an avalon 6... Ask for advice before puchasing
- if you have a decent electricity rate, but you don't want to invest to much, you could try to mine altcoins using a GPU (only certain GPU's are good enough for this)

You will not able to make profits using those devices you have mentioned because you may end up loosing instead of gaining. The current bitcoin difficulty is very high and mining can only be profitable using ASIC miners if not affordable to buy them, better forget about bitcoin mining.
