Check their profile. They might have registered before 2013 October (November?) before the hack that made theymos disable the avatar temporarily. There was no rank restriction for avatars back then.

Man I hope not.  Signatures and avatars should only be available for higher ranked members,  IMO.  The less space these noob shitposters have to rent out, the better the forum will be.  And even if there are arguments against this, I think we should try it out anyway.  And banning account sales too.  Nuff said.

No. Users who had avatars before the avatar restriction went into affect were allowed to keep their avatars. Thus there are still a number of Newbies, Jr. Members, and Members who still have avatars because they set them before the avatar restriction.

Honestly whenever I see a newbie with an avatar I assume it's a sold/hacked account and have a look at older posts vs new posts. It's sad that's what it's come to but honestly a lot of these accounts have a ton of potential activity and scammers/spammers can pick them up relatively cheaply compared to an actual full/senior member.

In theory, if full member uploads avatar and then deletes enough of his own posts - wouldnt the avatar also stay ? And due to deletion of posts under 120 they
would be shown as lower membership than FM.  Just a thought on what may have happened.

It's probably the reason, because I don't remember that that account was old enough to enter under the description of longbob72. If I ever find it back, I'll give the final word here.

So I finally found an exemple by randomly crossing the forum. That user, TraderBill, has a recent account, created after the problems that led to the temporal desactivation, has a rank lower than Full Member and wear an avatar Huh.

Maybe he went to Full Member and saw a lot of his posts deleted and was able to keep the avatar ?

What about those members who did'nt upload Avatar? Can they still be able to upload it if their account is created before 2013?

That is also a possibility. If you look into their post history, you can see a fair amount of posts are just '.' (second page). This means that the user has likely edited their posts. Those eventually get reported and deleted making their activity drop (unless they create new posts).

Wel,, I think we found the reason for that strangeness. So you confirm that if some Full Member lose its rank, he will keep its avatar ?

IIRC Heros even keep their rank when their activity drops below the Hero requirement.

Interesting. I'll keep this post in mind and when I'll reach the Hero Member rank, I'll delete one of my posts and see what happens !

I was talking about TraderBill. But I've found the reason of why he has an avatar while being ranked lower than Full Member. Check the above posts if you want the answers !

There was a few hour window several months about a year ago when everyone was temporarily made a hero(?) member, and had the permissions of such (which included the ability to upload an avatar).

One person even registered an account and uploaded an avatar that was a screenshot of them being a hero member.
