A Russian missile design company has unveiled the first image of a new weapon in Russia's arsenal: the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, nicknamed "Satan 2."

The RS-28 Sarmat rocket "is capable of wiping out parts of the earth the size of Texas or France," Russian state news outlet Sputnik reported in May.

How is it different from the thousands of other missiles they made during cold war and after? Just another nuclear missile, or is there something special about this one?

I think this is Russia's way of showing other countries that they are not someone to mess with, and Russia will attack if provoked. That being said, I do not think they will strike first, but will retaliate if another country attacks first. This could also be a warning sign for a possible World War 3 if Hillary Clinton is elected US President, and Russia is protecting itself by stockpiling on weapons. It is no secret that Clinton and Russia have had a rocky relationship after Clinton accused Russia of being behind her hacked emails, and it could lead to another Cold War.

Maybe, there is a possibility. It can carry 16 mini warheads each individually steerable during reentry. Each warhead has 300 kiloton yield. Remember the damage done with 16 kiloton in japan. Minimum this can destroy 16 cities with one missile.

Remember this missile travels at mach 5 and the reentry speed could be up to mach 25.

I have read that the SS-18 Satan is the most powerful ballistic missile on active duty. But still, I don't think that the American missiles are much inferior to them. The difference is in the air-defense capability. The Russian S-500 surface to air missile system is the best of its kind and is much superior to its American rivals.
