Dharwad International School in Karnataka is the first school offering a facility of Bitcoins for their annual fees. The population of 1.25 billion, is set to overtake China’s by 2022 – and India’s remittance industry is calculated at a massive $50-70 billion. Experts are touting India as home of the next Bitcoin boom.

Didn't know that earlier, do other schools also accept bitcoins ?

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Great to see such things happening in asian countries too, because i've always seen countries from Europe or America accepting bitcoins or having bitcoin ATMs etc, but now it is coming in Asia as well so it would be an interesting time to see bitcoin spreading around.

Pretty insignificant on a large scale but every small positive is a micro step in the right direction. I hope that they get at least a few sets of annual fees paid in bitcoin.

What we're talking here is a third world country where even Internet is still a concept in many villages and towns.Coming from that background, the IT sector considers bitcoin as a way of "money laundering" and so does the government. In my opinion, this is a great move, way to go India!

It is an interesting development to find a school in a developing country for that matter accepting fees in bitcoin. Many more are sure to join sooner than later, because bitcoin and the technology behind it is a revolution in the way we know and use money.

India really harnessed the use of bitcoin.Hope more services, institutions will accept bitcoin and fully incorporating it in their business as a financial instrument. Though it is illegal in some countries, it may be a an eye opener to them that digital currency is the future.

This is so good to hear that a school in India is accepting bitcoins. I'm from India and was scared about the acceptance of bitcoins and this news is the first positive step towards bitcoins being recognized in our country.

This is the start and this is everyone what has been waiting for. Finally an international school starts to adopt bitcoins.

And Am I reading it right? China for real? So the Dragon government is now considering bitcoins too since most of them are miners already.

No doubt about it, because as long as there is something that will profit them, they will come enter to it.

Let's see if India will reach it goal to become the home of the next bitcoin boom.

Wow. I didn't know our world had something that progressive. Cool, very cool. I think this will make this school very popular and prestigious, because this school is aware of something that unusual and believes in it. And for bitcoin it is a great step forward, step to become widely accepted.

Indeed a great move towards Cryptos in India! More information about the school and their acceptance of bitcoin could be read here :  http://www.sumantranaconsulting.com/insights02.html

Now,on the negative side of it : Read this : http://dharwadinternationalschool.com/admission.php

Quote
Please note – DIS is strictly against any form of donations or capitation fees.

The rules are simple, the school is requested to reverse places for rich kids and business magnates by serving huge bribes as donations. Now according to the government rule,it's a crime. The Income Tax depratment can always raise questions about it.Bitcoins saved their life. Not blaming them but it could work both ways!

Great news. I thought that schools and other educational facilities would be the last to accept the Bitcoin. So, this is good message to other puble institutions. And it's good for Bitcoin reputation because some people are linking it only to gamr and dark markets. And this is something for the public good.

I remember hearing about a university in Cyprus, and another in the UK, that began accepting BTC. It was a year or more ago though, I have no links for those.

Not many schools have accepted bitcoin here in India till now. Good to see Karnataka taking the lead in them Smiley

I hope other schools, colleges and hospitals will start to accept it soon enough. Bitcoin is not very popular in my city though, now it seems there is a ray of hope that it will become more popular here as well.
