Hey guys,

I used to play this game called www.eternal-lands.com when I was quite younger (maybe the first MMORPG that I've ever played)

Why I'm mentioning this is because I believe that Bitcoin could be implemented into the game's natural economy (most of it is based on player to player trades).

What I expect from this post is to find a developer thinking about this and that is willing to take a look at the game and see how difficult it would be to implement Bitcoin transactions inside the game itself.

Maybe some sort of lightweight wallet feature that could be developed?

I haven't hit the pitch to the developers of the game, because I wanted to go by you guys first.

Do you think this could work? What do you think about this idea?

Dev here... So I'm currently working on a mmorpg game in a different setting (space sci-fi) that has bitcoin as an economy plus more.  Cool

Depending their codebase and if they centralized in game money to specific modules in the code, it could be a small scope or a huge undertaking. Earlier this year I converted an application for fundraising that was made for paypal and fully implemented Bitcoin.  I see this game is coded in C++, but it's also a client/server architecture and split amongst a few different developers.  Their game is pretty old, so portions of the game would probably have to be rewritten to make game elements work, like in-game shops and such. Likely devs have "moved on" to different projects and such. You're probably looking at a years worth of work to get it integrated plus trying to convince the devs to do it. There's going to be "that guy" who's convinced that it's a scam or the other guy who wants the orcs to use ethereum instead.

Thanks for your feedback man! I appreciate that you went out of your way to check it out!

Me personally, I'm not a developer, but I understand technology and I actually admire the engineers that are able to say: Tell me what you want and I can make it! It's impressive!

I'm constantly generating ideas and I really, really love bitcoin and what it potentially could become!

On the topic at hand, I get that, but there are there are 146 players online right now. It's a small amount, but if we enable people to transact in an environment such as that one it could potentially become a selling point for the game (the game is free) and lead to an increase of active players in the community. I think that bitcoin would fit perfectly in this game. Devs are still active, last update was made on September 21st 2016.

But I understand what you're saying. Even if it was possible to export/import data from a web application, the game is old and it isn't made with bitcoin in mind. This complicates things and in a way it's easier to create a new game from scratch.

I'm all up for it though. If there is a developer experienced in bitcoin integration that would like to try this out we could pitch it to the developer and if nothing else enhance our community here with two new members (The game is produced by two people, husband and wife. He's a developer, she's a designer) Smiley

I used to pay the Game too!Maybe the same time around when first versions of Ragnarok were released? But ragnarok took over the MMORPG scene in that era.

Why I'm mentioning this is because I believe that Bitcoin could be implemented into the game's natural economy (most of it is based on player to player trades).
Taking ragnarok into consideration, yes that would make things so much simpler! Buying potions with bitcoins!

What I expect from this post is to find a developer thinking about this and that is willing to take a look at the game and see how difficult it would be to implement Bitcoin transactions inside the game itself.

But would the game core devs allow them ? I'm not sure of eternal lands but a new game with complete bitcoin integration would be grand!

Maybe some sort of lightweight wallet feature that could be developed?
Not really.Just inbuild sending/receiving bitcoin addresses section. No need to keep an extra in-game wallet.

I haven't hit the pitch to the developers of the game, because I wanted to go by you guys first.

Do you think this could work? What do you think about this idea?
Definitely! If you can convince that devs, that would be great.I should try my luck with ragnarok devs as well!

Hey guys/gals,

I come back with an update.

So I downloaded the game, and the developer was online. I talked with him about potentially incorporating a bitcoin feature within the game and he was open to hearing more about the idea. I invited him to join in on the conversation here.

I'm going to use this topic to openly discuss development of this project.

I feel that the bitcoin economy simply lacks a good game and this game really has potential.

It's really late where I am right now, so I'll come back tomorrow and expand on my thoughts.

I would really like to create a win-win-win-win situation, or what I like to call a win-chain. Smiley

Meanwhile, give some of your creative energy to this question "How would YOU integrate bitcoin (as a feature) in a video game?", and share your answer with me!

I really like your idea of implementing bitcoin in a game. There haven't been many MMORPG games involving Bitcoin and I really think there's a potential for it. Maybe offer a way to buy in game currencies directly with Bitcoin, or have a quest in game that can reward you with Bitcoins?

Not to piss on your parade fellow, but most of these large MMORPG games do not want to touch Bitcoin, until it has been clearly defined or

regulated as a currency. The negative publicity is not helping... I also tried to pitch this to a game I am playing, and I was banned on the

forum for 6 months. They are not very open to debate... So good luck.  Roll Eyes

So some lesser MMORPG developers won't touch bitcoin but meanwhile Steam has no problem with accepting it as payment method?
The one argument I think they could came up with is that they don't want to add currency to the game to not spoil children or something.
It might be the case if they haven't cash shop with items implemented in the game already!

If you were banned only for suggesting Bitcoin then you know that developers/moderators are ignorant idiots and the game is probably not worth playing anyway.

Hey everyone!

Thank you for the input on this thread.

I talked to the developer, and it seems that he's working on his own development of the game for Android.

He was also curious as to how can he make sure that he will benefit from integrating bitcoin in his game.

Since the game supports bots, we could create a bot that would trade in-game items for bitcoin. It's going to have to create an address for every player that trades with it and it's going to have to have a bankroll of BTC to support initial trades. Usually trade bots buy cheaper and sell lower. This option could theoretically be done without an update for the game.

Another way we could go about this is find a way to create an in-game bitcoin store. Special items/gold, mounts and other items could be sold for bitcoin there. This would require an update to the game itself.

These are the two specific ways I've conceived for making this bitcoin integration possible here.

Are there any developers that are willing to invest their time in this idea? We're not going to do anything without a commission based plan (10% of sales to the developer or something like that).

The game doesn't enjoy a huge player base. Enabling Bitcoin in the game will theoretically increase the active player base!

I used to play EL myself back in the day, (long enough ago I forgot my premium account information,) I could see Entropy being interested in bitcoin. However, you might also want to talk to Learner about using it in his implementation, I believe it's called Other Life. It could be even more useful in the business model he uses.

I'm just a small fry in the development world, to the point that I still only call myself an aspiring developer, but I know it would be useful in Learner's model because it's my intention to eventually create a game that uses a business model inspired by the one Learner implemented to which I intended to use bitcoin or another cryptocurrency in lieu of third parties for escro and payment processing.

The biggest issue is gambling laws. Steam allows Bitcoin as a payment method but allowing cryptocurrencies in games for in game items means legal hurdles for game developers particularly in games where there is some level of chance.

Then there are developers like Linden Labs, CIG, etc which don't want to have their in-game currency used outside the game so they can control the internal economy without external forces.

Payment processors and KYC laws also can be problematic too, it's a matter of finding ways around the limitations of the laws by being creative. Not easy to do, but possible.

Don't you think this needs to be implemented top-down, i.e. from the game developers? How will an outsider like yourself be able to add bitcoin payments into the MMORPG's ecosystem?

This time it's different.

Most game developers prefer to create some token based in-game currency that can be bought with several different payment options. So they by-pass some laws in some countries by trading in tokens and not real world currencies. < Buy 1000 crystals for 0.0002 bitcoins for instance. >

In some countries these tokens are then swapped for products that are on offer on these sites. < T-shirts, customized gaming gear and peripherals etc.. >

I would much rather want them to trade these tokens for Bitcoins, but I can see why this is done.
