Swiss is modern country, and one hand its not a surprise that they are adopted bitcoin as currency and payment option. On other hand for me this is something new, I didn't hear nothing about this before now.
Yes it`s a bit expensive too live there, and I would love that as well. But when that is not possible, only good thing that can is bitcoin to spread on other countries. Congratulations to them, some countries will always be ahead of the others, someone needs to lead.

Did anyone see those news? I didn't see a thread here so im making it. It's pretty huge news, I think it went low on the radar because everyone is talking about 0.13.1 release and segwit, but this is also important. The fees are very low and you can go there with bitcoins in your pocket and enjoy shopping pretty much anywhere. What a nice country, too bad im too poor to be able to live there.

Swiss is always ready to adopt new tecnology, and this news should make more impact in European Country, It is the true fact that to live in this country you should be rich. Hope seeing this progress of this country make impact to other country also.

I was reading earlier about Swiss railways giving the option to buy bitcoin via their ticket machines, I thought that was pretty good news, this however is fantastic news and if is becomes heavily used it can only inspire other countries to follow suit.

Yes, Switzerland is paving the way for an increasing Bitcoin adoption. We were discussing it already on the forum
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg16707336#msg16707336

https://sweepay.ch/ is the company which made this possible apparently
It is very good news for all bitcoin lovers.Although Switzerland is a small country but huge number of tourists visit there from all around the globe every year and if bitcoin is accepted by many merchants,it will surly help spread the word

From this article I can say that bitcoin is being used only to be spent/sell there but not buy.
So it is used only to top up your phone? How does this work step by step if anyone can explain it.

That Is a good news. I hope there are over 10,000 place that accept bitcoin in my country too. But I think it is realy hard becouse it will need goverment permission that mean they will take a tax of bitcoin. But what swiss dud is amazing. It is good news for bitvoin future. I hope I have so much bitcoin so I can take a holiday in swiss and spend my bitcoin there, it would be amazing. Swiss is popular country so I think it is good too for bitcoin dissemination. Bitcoin mass adoption will goes faster. I realy happy to read this news.

That's actually pretty insane to think about. Switzerland seems like such a nice country; neat weapons, lots of banking, pretty open to new technological idea, good currency, and so on.

Surprises me that they would open up 10k locations, but that isn't a bad thing. I'm happy with it.

Good news but I do not think it is that huge in my opinion. It for sure is a really important one due to the fundamental nature that gives Bitcoin more infrastructure to get money in and out of the system. It will also help gain more adoption. I hope we see more brick and mortar terminals accept Bitcoin especially when the Lightning Network rolls out.

They will be selling Bitcoin at every rail station in Switzerland. How this is not HUGE push for bitcoin adoption?
It is better than having a thousand BTMs all over the country. If this experiment will succeed then maybe we will see ever more project like this in other countries?

this sounds like the same setup as zipzap which was gonna open up thousands of terminals in the uk and beyond for bitcoin sales. then nothing was ever heard from them again. it's cool all the same.
This is specially big because Switzerland is not a country that has enough size to consider 10.000 as small amount. In Switzerland 10.000 and growing means full adoption is comming soon. Pretty much ever kilometer would see one at this pace.

The article you posted mentions 10 000 locations worldwide as of now, it doesn't mean that they are going to open 10 000 terminals right now in Switzerland offering the service of buying Bitcoins to station passengers. But anyway this would be a great way of acquiring Bitcoin for Swiss citizens or people owning a Swiss telephone number which I guess is not a hard thing to obtain once you are in Switzerland.

The answer to the text in bold:

If you want a pre-paid phone number in Switzerland then you have to give your ID to the seller, he will make a copy of it and transmit it to the company from where the SIM card is ... if you make some bad things with that phone number police can find you easy as 1 2 3.

So buying BTC in Switzerland isn't that good as it seems. They will know you bought BTC or sold  using that phone number.

It's a common practice to hand out your ID when purchasing pre-paid sim cards in foreign countries, I have done the same on numerous occasions while traveling abroad. My point was that people could get a Swiss telephone number and purchase some coins when they are on location that's all. There are legitimate people wanting to get their hands on a Swiss sim card and not all are shady individuals.

I just wanted to let everyone know .... for example let's suppose some guy from another country non EU sees this topic
And he thinks fuck me I'm filthy rich and I want to buy BTC from Switzerland.
He travels to Zurich and when he tries to buy a SIM card the seller ask for his ID, he then is surprised and upon his beliefs will continue the transaction or stop it and go home sad.

I just didn't want him to waste his time traveling all this way for nothing. Wink

Swiss is a known place for rich people to store their money because they don't want to pay the high taxes that their origin countries demand. They have a policy of respecting financial privacy, but as we have seen with the leaks, it's not a good idea.

Bitcoin can put at the hands of regular non rich people, a "swiss bank" in their pockets.

I just seen a documentary yesterday on TV that was showing right this. I didn't have much time yesterday to look it all but people at my work were also talking about such thing and I was curious cause they almost never talk about bitcoin.

Well I told them I can sell them a few coins if they want to go there and try , after all we are just a few hours of distance to Switzerland.

I hope other countries take Switzerland as an example and expand the bitcoin even more and people everywhere are more aware about bitcoin in general.

it should be cool to live in such country. the citizen are already rich and now they use bitcoin as payment in over 10.000 locations. it's a huge amount anyway.

I think bitcoin will be famous in a short time after the anouncement. that's good to know this news.
