Day trading as a minor

Hi,I am a minor who wants to start day trading using Bittrex and I was wondering whether or not they would let me open an account if I'm a minor,or maybe let me open up some sort of custodian account like a UGMA/UTMA account

I dunno how bittrex operates but I assume it's less invasive than poloniex. I've traded on poloniex for ages and have never provided any id or details about myself at all.

as long as you're careful to stay below their limits you should be fine. if you go over them then that's a nice problem to have. get someone old to hand over their details in that case.

to take full responsibility for the account, so you will not be held liable for anything, if something goes wrong. A friend of mine had a very gifted son, and he was only 14 years old. He ran a small printing business

with his parents bank account, without any troubles and made tons of money. Luckily for them, nothing went wrong and this child paid for his own studies with the money he owned from that business. We should

You could try asking their support, just in case. But I don't think they're gonna let a MINOR trade.

Anyway, As previously mentioned, they're not really asking for IDs/verification details for every single
account that registers. So, just don't do any suspicious trades or anything that might raise a red flag.

I think many websites are having a "no age restriction" mentality with bitcoin. Unfortunately 95% of these websites who offers and promote such thing are the gambling sites. Now this maybe a good thing for bitcoin in general but is very bad for every person which is under the age of 18 and gets dived into gambling. I am sure a person under 18 cannot see the difference really well before good and bad choice and wrong or right.

I agree with you that the ones who can do this should be the trading, buy/selling companies of digital goods (which in fact some of the companies are doing this) so bitcoin gets another edge over the traditional form of money.

Actually every gambling site I encountered has an age limit. You may be not aware of that, because they won't enforce it or ask you for some kind of ID confirming you age.
But you will find info about age restriction in their Terms of Service for sure. If Op is serious about his trading then the only option is to use account registered by his legal guardians.

from me, in Poloniex as an example, IIRC they have no such restrictions but only can be traded with cryptos there. i did tell them mods how old i am, they didn't say it was illegal for sure though. don't get me wrong, the age to trade them legally depends on where you physically located in, like Hong Kong.

with that said, bittrex has not asked me for any personal information like any kind of license proving my age and/or identity!

besides you can use other options if that is what you are looking for. there are other exchanges like btc-e that don't have such rules.

Exchanges with no rules on age limit do not have high trading volumes yet.
However if you can register on ANY exchange without an ID provided you do not exceed their daily withdrawal limit for unverified accounts.

not completely true, since btc-e and cex.io and c-cex and bittrex are the exchanges that i have been using and none of them ask for ID apart from cex.io and that is only if you want to deposit or withdraw fiat.

OP wants to trade altcoins since he mentioned bittrex and when you trade only cryptocurrenies you don't have to provide any personal information on these sites i named which are also popular.

OP can try poloniex however it is not allowed by them according to their terms just like bittrex https://poloniex.com/terms/

but as an unverified account anybody can deposit or withdraw upto $2000/day so for small amount of trading no id verification is required however its better to understand what you are doing/trading and the age limitation is to just stop some kids spending all they have trying trading without any knowledge and also to meet legal requirement.

For know Poloniex might not have any KYC policy implemented and you may trade with not problems using full functionality of the exchange.
But I've been in a situation before where my local exchange I used suddenly established trading limits and kept asking for customers IDs.
Thankfully I didn't have anything deposited there at that time.

It is unfortunately typical for bitcoin sites to not require any identification in the beginning, and then later force you to jump through so many hoops to get access to your money that they could just as well be stealing them outright.

Any exchanger who wants to run legitimate business need to respect the provisions of law and one of them is identity verifaction. As soon as they figure out that you are a minor they will not allow you to trade.
Bitcoin is not so anonimous as is used to be before and I don't know if you could register anywhere.

I am 14, your best way to get bitcoins is have your parents buy them through coinbase then send them to you, I trade on poloniex, although they recently changed their terms of service to not accept minors. If you do not want to do that you can just buy the parts to mine bitcoin (cash; it's more profitable) and have it link to one of your accounts. Right now, I suggest you use Jaxx, it is a wallet and trading in one.

Wow, crazy that Poloniex was accepting minors until recently. Re: Jaxx, I would avoid that wallet. Very weak security/privacy, and only a 4-digit pin instead of complex passphrase protecting the wallet. I'm all for Wallet --> Shapeshift --> Wallet, but I would remove Jaxx from the mix.

Non-KYC exchanges (like BitMEX) are an option for those that want to avoid identity verification. I have to think most exchanges don't technically allow minors by now, though.

Bittrex is very strict now and will force you to verify yourself so to be honest, it's going to be hard so better just wait until you are 18.
