Which GPU will be better

I want to start mining Altcoins running on any algorithms.

Can anyone suggest which GPU will be Better ?

Gigabyte R9 290 x5

or

Of course you can mine with every GPU, but it depends what you want to do, one hobby rig, to build a mining farm in near future, do you pay for electricity or not?
First compare the prices of the GPU's, After that check how many MH/s you will receive of every rig. After that find information about the power consumption of the cards and do the math.

I can write a lot more information but first make a little research and ask again.

take nvidia 1070: energy saver and almost maintenance free comparing to Radeons
(and you have out-of-the-box Linux distro for 16GB pendrive, search for KopiemTu)

don't think so - nvidia is MUCH BETTER but most profitable coins are in the start (like zcash now) and nvidia has MUCH WORSE community support which makes it useless, unfortunatelly

The AMD RX 480 is quite good for both the Etheruem and ZCash mining. But Ethereum  mining will finish next year.

The best, if you choose to stay within the AMD group, will be the RX 480 within the one you mentionned. For me, tha allstar card is the RX 470.

RX 470 has proven to be more energy efficient in terms of energy consumed vs reward, so I would suggest go for 5 RX470.

Agreed!  Not sure why anyone would opt for 480's vs 470's at this point.  My modded MSI 470's can get over 28 on ETH, cost $40-$60 less than 480's and consume significantly less electricity than the 480s.  Best stable HR you will probably eek out with a modded 480 is around 30, so that extra 1-2 vs a 470 will simply never be worth it due to the excess cost up front, but more so due to the extra watts needed to run 480s.  Certainly if you already have 480s in your rigs there is no point in switching to 470s, but for new setups it really seems like a no-brainer between the 2.

For the better memory overclocking is really the only reason. Also if you decide to get out of mining later they will sell easier and quicker. You can under volt the RX 480 as low as an RX 470 with WattTool.

Hmmm... so are you saying that 480s can generally be under-volted to 470 stock levels? or that both can be undervolted to about the same level?  The latter seems a bit strange to me (although granted, I am still learning this stuff) because the the 480's have a much higher starting point, power-consumption wise.  Most of my 470's are capable of over-clocking to 2000 (from 1650 base) with between -10% & -20% voltage offset (after strap-modding the bios).  Granted, I'd assume that 480s are capable of what... 2100 Mhz?  But, it would be surprising if they could truly match the low power consumption of 470s.

The RX 480 vs the RX 470 generally comes down to "what is on sale right now" - the performance is close since the cards are so similar, and the price is usually very close to the same ratio as the performance.

 Both are a ton more efficient than the R9 390 or R9 290, though the x90 cards can do a little higher hashrate on some coins they also eat a TON more power.


 The other tradeoff is "can you get a 290 or 390 at low enough cost to make UP for the efficiency" - the RX series didn't exist yet when I got my R9 290s (and 280xs) or I'd probably have gone for the newer card, as teh cost I paid for my 2xx series cards was very close to what the RX series is running now (but I've had the cards long enough they're pretty much paid for, and my electric is cheap enough they're still highly profitable).
